I fixed the problem wiht the help of EA tech support. Yah, I'm stumped too. For 1GB+ RAM users you could change your virtual memory: min - 2000, max 4000. That helped a little but what really helped is ending your processes in your task manager. End everything running under your name except taskmgr.exe, explorer.exe, IEXPLORE.exe. Yes even your CLI.exe for ATI users. I can now run at 1024x768, 4x AA, All Settings High. Without going below 40FPS. It averages at 50FPS. I just hope this is permanent now.

Is that safe to do, I know everything is restored after a restart but will it not cause any problems?

Well I always leave my Norton Internet Security running (I turn off my anti-virus however). Then I just have Vent and Xfire running and thats it. I have 10 GB (yeah thats right) of virtual memory and 1 GB of phyisical memory. You don't need that much virtual, but with my HD's it doesn't hurt :).

I'm not trying to pick holes m8, in your post, but you do know that they/you need to take into account specific needs for background programs working at the same time as BF2? (e.g. ZBoard, a joystick, and mouse (e.g. with buttons) firewall, anti V, Net program, firewire, router etc, that also require amounts of extra V mem)

Actually, you can also end explorer.exe and everything will be fine. When you finish playing BF2 go to the task manager you left open, click file, then new task. Type explorer.exe in the box then click ok and windows will look good as new.

Yes ~e5.0001.exe is a part of bf2. it has to be running along with bf2.exe
also, thats the process you need to you kill to turn off unresponsive bf2

I think a few days ago something happened and explorer.exe didnt load or something and I couldn't open anything like my computer without getting an endless searching sign. You probably just dont need it to run BF 2.

Does anyone know what svchost.exe is/does and is it safe to close when playing BF2?

It's part of some kind of macrovision copy protection or similar, it is normal, used in many games and applications.

those programs does not take a lot of memory so it doesn't matter if you turn off it or no,but you can turn off you anti virus which eat a lot of memory.
