I would be amazed at when his family purchased a Mac, it would be at least half as good as my PC and double the price (I'm not over exagurating, however the store had a little to do with it by overpriced, but still it was ridiculous). Now he is going to buy a REAL computer so he can play battlefield 2. Yes I have used a Mac before, since elementry school, the computer lab was and still is filled with Macs, and now in High school in my info tech. class we use macs, and every class they freeze.
If you want the same hardware in a mac as in a PC, it will always cost more. BUT, the OS is far superior to windows. It is much more stable.

Many 3D programs run great on Mac and they are very stable on it. That is why I love it.

Macs also look nice and have a nice UI for the OS.

yeah Mac OS X is much better than Windows XP. It's faster and more organized IMO. But if you wanna upgrade you have to buy a whole new comp, thats a major problem. But overall Macs are very reliable. My high school has been using those old colored ibooks for years.

Windows only looses its stability when a sloppily designed program has been executed (most of the time, games), most games can't be run on macs so it has the ILLUSION of a superior OS.

Many 3d programs run great on Windows too, your point? A mac version of a 3d program will be just as likely to crash as the Windows version of it (applying too many polygons, increasing the amount of Iterations, smoothness, etc.)

Hah, apple is what a computer should be? Ya, being forced to buy prebuilt computers sounds great!

How? Please explain because I would like to invest in a Mac so I can play a 4 year old game "better."

*not to get into mac vs pc* but...

As a video professional, I know the power of MACs. I also know the compatbility issues. They are also very proprietary in regards to hardware/software, something I have always disliked. The OS, especially X, owns everything. Period. OK, that was to let everyone know I'm not a total MAC hater.

But... How bad are macs gonna suck with the Intel Pentium D. That chip is "trusted computing platform's" wet dream. To all that want a mac, buy it before the end of this year when the Power PC chips are phased out and the D's put in. Also, if you didn't know, there are already HP machines running the D. Aviod it like the plague. Unless you are into chip level DRM.

I don't see what's so bad about a Mac, they're pretty awesome except they can't play games and the OS owns all others. I wish I had one instead of my PC...

Also, to the thread poster, games that sell a lot on windows get ported over to the Mac. It seems very likely because they've developed BF1942 and Sim City 4 for Mac. Just expect it in like 2-4 years, though.

If macs are soo great then why is apple abandoning them and moving to Intel Based CPUs? you can answer that one yourself

Yeah, it's coming out next week. I heard Steve Jobs speak at MacWorld this year. I think he said it was gonna be called battlePod. But there's no Hovercraft at Dragon Valley. There's a flying toaster instead.

They aren't abandoning Macs they are moving from the IBM PowerPC Chip to an Intel Chip... that's it. The rest of the hardware is the same as well as the OS except it's being optimized for the new cpu architecture. What's going to happen is Macs are going to be better than ever and DELL fanatics are going to have no room for critisism.
