i have a dell computer with p4 2.7 ghz 1 gb ram ddr at 333 mhz and a ati radeon 9550 se 128 mb i am debating wether or not to buy a new computer or just a new video card



what would you do????

ya good stuff thanks guys guess this means i only need to save money for a week as opposed to a month for my new hardware im thinking an ati radeon as they have worked well for me in the past

Get a top card if you are not happy then do a home build "don't" under any circumstances get a off the shelf pc.

I agree with GreatWhite here. Shelf builders suck. I have built 3 machines now, and I have not had a problem with any of them cuz I didn't load a bunch of extra ****. Like Dell puts a hidden partition on their hard drives. I bet you didn't know that did you? Thats cuz Dell can suck it.

If you buy a graphics card make sure you can return it! You will need an AGP card, and if you have to build a new computer you will want to go PCI-E.

And not necarcarily, Asus do an AGP 939 and AGP ain't all that bad. Lets face it, you're going to end up replacing most of your machine with new tech by the time you do it. It happens every time, you buy parts with upgrades in mind, then end up replacing them anyway..

thanks guys for the input i bought a radeon x700 pro 256 i just got it today and im very pleased ps i am still waiting for my 500 w power supply but i still put the card in and i have no complainted...tho i still cant max out my settings but ill save that for when i buy a brand new comp in a few years

Nice one bud..... you are well on your way to going from shelf build / shop bought pc's to the exiting learning curve of home builds.

BTW don't forget if you get stuck with anything there's lots of peeps out there willing to help, in all kinds of forums.

I bought a Dell. Love the thing, payed $1000 for 6800 256MB, 1GB ram, P4. 3.0 160GB HDD and monitor, speakers, the works. They took $500 off the computer too. Tech support is great too. So unless youve had a dell, dont say they suck, because this is my familes 3rd dell and all of them are/have been great.

Why would you stay with AGP when it will be outdated in a matter of 1-2 years. PCI-Express is the future of graphics, I don't think anyone will argue with that. So why pay for old technology? If he is going to upgrade, let him setup for the future as much as he can.

Sigh...I should have bought a PCI-E card back in June but I bought an AGP card instead...now I am stuck with AGP card for a while
