Can we really trust DICE Canada to do a good expansion pack?

Justifiably or not, DICE Canada is viewed by most PC gamers as one of the worst companies in the business. Battlefield Vietnam was a disaster in spite of the fact that they were basically handed an award-winning game engine to base it upon. Mostly, it was their lack of customer support that killed the game. Battlefield 1942 was also buggy on its release, but it was patched. BFV did not receive enough patches, and the rest is history.

Now DICE Canada is back, trying to sell us an expansion pack just a few months after BF2's release. By the time BF2 is completely patched up, the expansion pack will have gone past the point where the patch fixes can be integrated into the expansion. So we'll get the same bugs patched twice. Theoretically.

Is it possible DICE Canada realizes that if it fouls up the BF2 expansion, the damage will be irreparable? Is the expansion pack being released so early that no company would be able to prevent the problems?

Now that I've drawn all of the expansion pack bashers into the thread, I may as well ambush them with another question. Expansion packs are widely criticized as "fracturing the community" of any given game. Don't mods do the same thing?

Get this release fixed with the majority happy with the product first before releasing an expansion I say. I can't believe a company would announce an expansion to a product that was initially flawed at release time just in a bid to attract more sales.

Maybe they'll integrate more fixes on the sly with the expansion pack which is also often done by game companies in order to cover their initial problems.

I wouldn't worry too much about it; this expansion will flop. Most people have enough common sense to not touch it with a ten foot pole, and those that don't will play it for 2 weeks then go back to vanilla BF2. Either way it really doesn't matter.

whats all this battlefield vietnam bashing? i loved that game, i had some sweet mods aka PoE, that was and still is a great game sure single player was shite but same all bf2 games thus farjust because it wasnt the breakthrough that was bf 1942 does not make it a bad game

I wasn't a big fan of Battlefield Vietnam and I knew it was something the original developers BF1942 did NOT develop.

Best thing to do for Dice Canada is to release a demo of the expansion.

Im not trusting Dice or EA with any expansion packs REGARDLESS of where they originate from.

I'm not buying that. Maybe if after about 3 months after it's been out and it's more popular than regular BF2, then just maybe, but that probably won't happen. I saw the screenshots. If I want that kind of game I'll go play CS:S.

BF1942 was buggy but it was the first online shooter with such big maps and this many players on a server plus that many options for players (vihiles and stuf) ,
BF1942 wasn't from the same developers as BFV what had bugs but not that many.

BF2 was the newest by DICE, but they had lots of expierience and stuf when making BF2, still it become the most buggy version ever (of all games??) , with the expansion pack, well I won't buy it when it comes out, first I want to see what the comunity thinks.

Maybe later I Will buy it because things like grapling hooks, flashbangs, .... looks realy cool to me
