At great heights, I can't control my plane.

Is this some sort of a glitch. Because if it wasn't, who in their right mind wouldn't let the jet go up higher without losing control.

It's so annoying when you lose control.

There isn't anything to shoot up there and this isn't a aerobatics sim. :-)

Logical explanation: atmosphere thins out, yielding less lift over your lifting and control surfaces.

I've noticed the same thing...hit around 1000 ft or so and things get out of control...had it happen last night, almost seemed like things go confused, went into some kind of spin, but would have my altitude vary wildly between 2000 ft and 1000 ft...completely uncontrollable though...

lol planes can fly really high, the height that you lose control over in this game, a remote control air plane can fly at that height without trouble.

besides, when you're trying to evade, the best thing sometimes is the sky, obviosly not in this game.

I had about 5 mobile AA all around the map of Daqing oilfields, so I was just flying in circles for a really long time trying to evade, I finally go tire and flew up into the air(I knew you lose control, but I was getting tired of flying in circles and decided to risk it), so I did and what do you know, I lost control. The plane started spinning uncontrollably

throttle down, pull up, throttle up.

yes irl planes can go much higher, but irl tanks can get over hills and choppers cant take two direct hits from a mbt.

I've noticed this "issue" too.. and I'm willing to bet it's a safeguard built into the game to force pilots to stay down in the action, instead of attacking and retreating up 25,000 FT where nothing can touch them. Yeah, it's unrealistic and a bit annoying for the pilots.. but I think it's necessary to keep things fair and balanced..

I have to admit though, it takes away a few of my favorite, albeit cheap, tactics from BF1942. I used to enjoy flying as high as I could over the enemy base or carrier. Then I'd proceed to cut the power and dive straight down at the base. I'd release my bombs and hit the throttle again and pull up just before hitting the ground. It was great. Since my throttle was at 0%, no one heard me coming. Confused the heck out of those people who I killed. I also liked to fly really high over the enemy carrier and then jump out and free fall all the way down to the carrier, pulling my chute at the last minute. Most of the times, no one knew I was there. I only did this when I was bored. Good time waster :)

This game rocks. I hate the fact that you can't fly that high in this game without entering a flat spin reminiscent of Top Gun, only that you never hit the ground! But I can deal with it. I can't stand everyone in these forums complaining about how this class should get more points, or this class' weapon is too weak, etc. I personally have never had more fun playing a game, even compared to Desert Combat. Lets just play the game and enjoy it? Can't we all just get along?

The loss of control in high altitude can be used to shake a tail. Most handy that.

Carefully executed a zoom-climb can save your life from a J-10.

Unexpected side-benefit. When you get above 1500 feet and using the booster, your speed nears 2000. That's faster then rockets, which you can essentially outrun this way.

Also, when you're followed and you zoom-climb, your rate of acceleration will increase. This means that you can put space between you and your tail as long as both of you put the pedal to the metal.

it is a game, not reality.

Have you ever rearmed a yet by flying 30 meters over a carrier at full military power? I didn't think so. Nobody else has, either, don't feel bad.

Anyways, the only thing a jet has to worry about in this game is another jet. A hard turn a bit of afterburner will ditch anything else on your tail.

This is only true below 500 feet. Above the loss of air traction makes your turns less steep, thus giving a missile a much better chance of hitting you.

Hey, anyone know if the pilots fly high and the commander is looking down over the plane it will show up? Kinda like the plane is flying right beneath the commander camera up really high

Aww nubs are so cute. :)
I also heard that the planes have a HUD with speed and cruising info. :)

but what are you doing at over 500 feet, hunting down the guys going for their airborne badge?

In real life you don't bomb from 50 feet off the deck and live either.

In BF2, once you get past the fog barrier (can't see the ground anymore) there's no reason to go any higher.
