Help with starting game

hi there, i'm writing on behalf of a friend.
The game is installed, but when he tries to run it, the Battlefield 2 splqash thingy appears, and then disappears without anything happening.
If he tries to run it again, it says the process is already running.

the process list does indeed show BF2 running.

why does the game not run properly?
could there be another process that stops it running in the foreground?

tell you friend to open the start menu and go to run, type msconfig.

on the 1st thing click 'selective startup' and then click the 'services' tab.

click the 'hide all microsoft' thing and then click 'disable all'. then click the 'startup' tab and click off anything that isnt needed by windows. you may want to leave your antivirus and firewall running though. if in doubt just look at its files name/location.

once you are happy w/ that click OK and it will tell you to restart, click 'restart now' and you are ready. when you have rebooted it will give you a popup, just click 'dont notify me when using selective startup blah blah' and load up bf2.
there should be nothing else running but the basic crap so it should be fine.

when you want to return to normal start up run msconfig again and select 'normal startup' from the opening tab.
its also a usefull way to set up if you are trying to free up system resources.

He tried that and apparently it made no difference.

dunno. what you describe sounds like something else is pushing it back but using a selective start up should have stopped any other programs running.
could be be spyware, get him to scan it w/ a few diff programs like adaware, adware-away and spybot search and destroy.

the only boot problems ive experienced was when i update my patches and the cd crack doesnt work anymore. is he using a cd crack?

try running in window mode
to do this co to the desktop short cut and right click on the short cut tab you will see a target like this "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1

change the 1 at the end of full screen to 0 and see if the game will run in windows mode
