Hey hey,

Over the last few weeks, I wondered. What would I do if I lost/scratched my DVD of BF2.

Well the other night...after I bought a brand new Saitek EVO for a little BH whoring of my own. I put my DVD in, in anticpation of the hot chick to say "welcome to battle" or whatever she says, my DVD never fired up....it said insert DVD....I pulled out my disk only to see a scratch on the bottom. I was pissed. I'm not sure how it got there, but I blame my wife, or my pesky brother-in-law or maybe, just maybe it was my son. I think there's a conspiracy.

Needless to say, I wasn't going to wait for a replacement disk from EA (search for pre-ordered games and you'll know why) I would have been in the store the next day, paying nearly 15$ more than when I first bought BF2.

Luckily with a little toothpaste, I managed to get most of the scratch out...and the game booted up. Tonight will be another test.

Now I know why we should be able to back up our copies.

Can't you return your game? It hasn't been a month after you bought it, so you can still return it. What I've done in the past is, just return it and ask for another BF2. Heh I did the same for BFV and had 2 CDKeys :p

THIS IS WHY I BACK UP ALL MY GAMES :) In fact i have two backed up copies laying in the same case as the original game. The only time i had my original disk in the DVDRW was when i was burning the 1st copy. I learned that this was needed after i lost both my NFS High Stakes and NFS Porche Unleashed games.

You may still be able to play the game if it is installed. All the game files are on the Harddrive its just that the BF2.exe file which starts the game first athenticates the disk in the ROM before lunching the game. To go aroudn this you can replace this file with a crack. It will be identical to the orignal file exept it will skip looking for a disk. This will remove the need for puting in disks thus make it less likely to scratch and will load the game faster. check www.gamecopyworld.com or www.crackspider.net to see if they have the crack. NOT THAT THIS IS LEGAL ONLY IF YOU OWN THE GAME!!!!

A better solution would be to get D-Tool (http://forums.totalbf2.com/showthrea...ighlight=crack) MAKE SURE YOU DONT REINSTALL THE GAME or you wont be able to do this. There is another thread somewhere here that actually gives you the mini immage so if you find it you are all set. Just remember not to uninstall this game.

To fix the DVD first try one of those scratch removers. If the scratches are not too big ( screw driver, etc) then this may solve it. If it does then immidiatly make a copy of the DVD and put the original in a very safe place. If not then still try to make a copy, which may or may not work. If it does then copy the copy and keep one of them in a safe place. That fixed on of my games. If neither one work then you may have to contact EA and they probably have a service where if you ship the DVD or CDs to them and pay about $15 plus the price of shipping it back they may send you a new one. THen once you get that make a back up and keep it in the safe place.

Yes I do legally own the game...No winks nor nods...I will try it. I'm just worried about PB and getting a ban. Now that I'm home from a vacation...I'm itching to play. Unfortunately, I'm having problems reading the DVD again. So I might have no choice but to try a crack...see ya.

you can get them repaired if its just alight scratch there are these big box things that repair them and do a kick arse job at it aswel, should look into it, i can get them done over here £1.50 a disc

If you can find the tech support number, lol, and even when you do, its all automated ******** anyway, refering you back to their website.


Also, if you have bought the game legitly, you are legally allowed to burn a copy for back-up purposes only!

If you're really desperate run down to any retailer that sells it and say it was a gift and when you opened it, it was scratched. See if you can get a replacement, minus the cdkey of course.

Nice try...I threw out the bill and made such a stink where I bought it...that they would see me coming from miles. However, I'm willing to shell out more cash to play. Oh...and for others thinking of using the ***** crack...read this from tweakguides.

Battlefield 2, much like most other modern games, has a copy protection system based on a CD check. While the game also requires that you enter a unique CD key when installing the game, and even though it is actually this CD key which is the key to preventing pirated versions from being able to play online, EA Games still insist on requiring that legitimate BF2 players keep their BF2 CD/DVD in their drives to play the game. I can only say that this is a lame method of protection.



While there are indeed places where you can download a file which allows you to play BF2 without the CD in the drive, I can't provide you with the details of where (due to legal reasons - so don't write and ask me for one). More importantly, even if I were to tell you where to download such a '*****' patch, it would be pointless to use one, since the Punkbuster cheat detection system in BF2 is likely to see this altered ***** executable file as a cheat, booting you and eventually banning you permanently from playing BF2 multiplayer. Therefore I strongly recommend that you do not use any forms of *****s or other cracks, as this will lead to your unique CD key being banned without any recourse.



Note, I am well aware of other methods of playing BF2 without the CD in the drive, but once again I cannot provide details of these due to legal reasons. It is up to you if you really want to research and find such methods.



There is hope that EA may release an official patch for BF2 which removes the CD check, but no game company ever does this during the lucrative initial sales period for a game, so it will be a while yet (if ever). Until then you should put up with the inconvenience of having to keep the CD in your drive, and steer clear of any ***** patches/cracks/hacks.
