i was watching a movie, "The People vs. Larry Flynt" i fine film i might add haha. and i decided to get all or the majority of my thoughts about the name changing situation in bf2 into one message, and send it to them. their response time lately has been very fast, usually less than 24 hours. anyway, this is what it said:

To whom it may concern at EA/Dice
this message is addressed at the problem that is facing the online players of your product Battlefield 2. There is a sort of tradition that has been going on in online gaming since it's start i'd say. That is the tradition of "Clans" people group up and form teams, and these teams all have names, and it is a custom to add a "Clan Tag" onto your name while playing in multiplayer. Let's throw together a scenario here to describe the problem facing the players of Battlefield 2.
***
There is a young boy named "Tim" and Tim wants to use the name "SuperSniper" while playing online with everyone else in multiplayer, so everyone playing on the same game server that he is, sees his name as "SuperSniper". And Tim has been playing Battlefield 2 with his account for a few months now, and hes unlocked several weapons, hes earned all the awards the game has to offer, his rank is high, and hes proud of the time and effort he has put into the game. And one day he decides that he is going to join an online gaming team or "clan" and this clan is named "101st Airborne", and they have a clan tradition of having their members and teammates have this tag in their names [101AB]. So if Tim wants to join this clan he would (according to the current setup EA has with the multiplayer part of Battlefield 2) have to create a whole new e-mail and setup a whole new account in order to add the [101AB] tag in order for people to see his in game display name as [101AB]SuperSniper. Forcing him to start all over from scratch, and put in all the hours, days, weeks, and months of work and gameplay to unlock and earn everything all over again. this can be extremely frustrating for anybody, just throwing away all of the work and time put into something.
***
I hope that the above scenario helps the creators of Battlefield 2 better understand the situation that the people who have $49 and sometimes even more than that, to play and enjoy the game that EA has made. And after paying that much money for a product that is meant for people's enjoyment, gamers arent capable of doing something as simple as adding a few letters or text characters onto their online display names.
EA spends countless hours creating the games that people pay money for, and sometime paying monthly payments to continue playing the game. EA addresses and takes care of the big problems, bugs, and glitches that may arise from ANY new release of a video game.
Battlefield 2 handles its online accounts through GameSpy, this is where the accounts are created, and handled. Now if you just take a stop over at www.gamespy.com or www.gamespyid.com and login to your registered account that was created when you register to play online with Battlefield 2, there is an option to change your in game name, that is registered to the e-mail account that is used on that account. There are even IN-GAME console commands to change and edit the NickName that is displayed in game.
I aswell as most of the people playing the multiplayer portion of Battlefield 2 understand is that, the current setup that EA/Dice uses to keep track of players' stats, is that they are tracked through the nickname that is used upon the registering of the account. It has been proven that, players do not even need to have a valid and verified or just plain REAL e-mail when registering their nickname. It can be just some made up e-mail, or false e-mail.
Here are some of my ideas to make things easier, safer, and more convienient for all of the gamers that play Battlefield 2. Instead of allowing accounts to be created and stats of players to be tracked by just using a nickname that someone uses. Why can't the the players' stats be tracked and organized by the e-mail that is registered to the account, instead of the of the nickname? that would make this easier on everyone (as this is the way the GameSpy accounts are handled, people can change their nicknames whenever they want through their account settings). Another way i see how people's stats to be tracked is by using the CD-KEY that came with their game, this would not only make things easier on the players' but it MAY also increase the security of the game by reducing piracy, decrease the people who find ways to pirate the products and games that EA produces, and by using false CD-KEYs. Another method that may work when it comes to keeping track of players' stats is by using the players' GUID, that is sort of like the indentification card of players' and their computers. This is how online gaming ladders and leagues keep track of players that play on their ladders, and keep people using their same accounts.
To the best of my knowledge this is the only game around that does NOT allow people playing the multiplayer portion of the game to change their nicknames, the names that everyone will see and know them ass when they play online on game servers. This is easily one of the more frustrating problems that players have at the moment in Battlefield 2.
As of right now there have been TWO official patches from EA that took care of glitches and problems that surfaced with the games' release, and it was made public that there would be another patch for the game that was "in the works", that was said to take care of more than 140 problems with the game. If this problem with the nicknames that the players are facing can be taken care of this this upcoming patch, or possibly in a later patch, i can assure EA that the consumers and gamers that purchase the game for their enjoyment will be very satified. Aswell as one of the oldest traditions in online gaming will be put into Battlefield 2. I personally feel that this problem should have been forseen and taken care of before the game's release.
I hope that this message can be recognized and taken into consideration by EA, and encourage them to take care of this problem, to make the consumers of the product even more happy with their purchase. And make their gaming experience with EA all the more enjoyable.
thank you for your time.
