I play support about 98% of the time - I love the PKM - it scares the C&^p out of ppl trying tocap a flag.

And to think I was torn between the G36C and the L85A1 as my next unlock(did M95 first, it rocks despite negative criticism), but now I'm playing Support more and more and it sounds like the PKM is the flavor of the month. Damn you EA for making us play for 50+ hours for 1 unlock...the torture!

The PKM is by far the most underrated unlock. This is the first time I've seen a thread on it. You have to get the hang of it first. Ever since the BFV M60 problem, they like to keep LMGs inaccurate. Get into a good position, preferably next to a wall with a medic behind it and the enemy funneled towards you by other walls. Then just hold the trigger down until the barrel overheats, at which point you can blow off the rest of your belt in 7-8 round bursts. Move the barrel slightly back and forth over target area to increase hit probability. Pretend you're a German on the Somme in 1915. definitely scares off helicopters.

This is the first dedicated thread, but in most MG threads (or general unlock threads) people chime in with "... but the PKM just rocks!" This is gonig to be my next unlock (should have been my first but I was seduced by the rate at which I was being mowed down by L85's, even though I don't usually play medic) and I suspect it will make my time playing as USMC/PLA support MUCH more bearable (the SAW has a sweet-spot where it is death on a bipod but outside of its magic range the thing loses to a half-dead blind old lady with a stick most times). Position is *DEFINATELY* important with any of the LMGs expecially the weak ones, because you have to get the drop on your target if you want to have any chance at a kill (that said, if you DO get a good position, you can get lots of kills and keep it up longer than an assault due to your lack of ammo problems, but once you're seen it is usually time to move (provided you don't just fall over from an AK varient).

One thing I want to know, is what the dang trick is to using the SAW up close. I'm doing something very wrong (I suck up close in general, actually) because I die to just about anything with my SAW out but when the tables are turned I barely have time to blink before some USMC support has taken me from full to no health while he's running past me at a CP. Meanwhile even if I drop to the ground and sight in at very close range I can never seem to get the hits I need ><

It's not that great against hovering attack helo's capping a flag, from my experience. It is a slow process and I find it better to hide and retake the flag after the helo is gone.

                  Works great vs infantry thou.

Both the support guns seem to take time to actually deploy when going prone, you'll have to allow for that and switching to iron sights takes another fraction of a second as well. It's this short period of time that can mean your death, simply because both of the support guns (PKM and M229SAW) suck when fired crouched or standing up meaning for accuracy you'll have to go prone. Compared to the support guns, all the other weapons have better accuracy when standing up or crouched so if you meet at close range you're always at a disadvantage against your opponent.

I'd suggest for tight infantry maps (Karkand.Sharqi Peninsula) when moving into blind corners and alleyways to use your pistol mainly and switch to the main weapon when you have some space ahead of you.

Always travel in a squad when playing as support and stay close together to your squad mates allowing you some protection whilst being able to supply them with valuable ammo when they need it.

Most of all...don't panic when you see somebody to shoot. Panic will cause you to make error judgements, wave the crosshairs all over the place and probably miss.

Fire in short bursts for better hitting accuracy with both weapons and don't forget that the PKM will also support single fire mode and is very accurate when used in this fashion. A few sharp mouse clicks and you'll be a deadly killing machine. The longer duration you fire will mean a greater bullet deviation from target and it's also very hard to control the climb and recoil from both the support weapons. Aim at your targets chest first and as you gradually fire, the gun's recoil pulls the bullets up into the upper chest, neck and head area of your opponent making hits that kill.

The PKM will also take out light vehicles when fired in full auto and is a definite danger to hovering helicopters over your head trying to cap a flag.

I've been a support whore for some time now and the accuracy on the support machine guns, if used properly is absolutely deadly.

The best part is that usually when a grenade launching chump can't kill me, I just lay there and unload a magazine in their asses and their medic friends who tries to revive them.

Just played three rounds of Karkand on the MEC side (64 players server). At the start of the round you can whore up immense scores, just throwing around ammo bags. In the meantime, find a sweet spot and blast away. Can be quite enjoyable.
