Commander! Very fun!

I just, for the first time in a multiplayer environment, played as the commander and it was really fun! The only other time I've been commander is in singleplayer to play around with the interface and learn how things work and such, but I've never gotten a chance to do it in multiplayer (because of my rank: Private First Class) until today!

Our commander, who was a very good commander if I do say so myself, was switched to the other team for autobalance (laugh) and the score was about 50 to 65 (we were losing) and I knew we needed a commander to win so I applied. I was accepted and I became the commander. You get a great feeling as a commander because you have so much power and can really help your team out.

We ended up winning (2-0!! ) and it was a great experience. I'm sure I won't be commander again until my rank goes up quite a bit but it was really fun and I look forward to the next time I get to do it.

Also, it's a great way to rack up points I got 55 points in that round, 16 being commander points (and we won so x2! )

And again, I'm guessing that BF2S.com keeps a cache of the stats? Because in BFHQ my stats are updated and on bf2tracker.com but not on BF2s.com. They probable clear the cache by the hour or something... we'll see :)

Ok one tip:

Use your microphone and give an explenation to your commands.

Example:
If you see your whole team attacking the same base, press v and say something like:
"Listen up guys, I'm ordering half of you to defend the north flags because right now we are to concentrated on this south base."
Then your ordering some of your squads to defend the north. Believe me they will follow your orders and you will do your team a huge favor.

Thanks for tip but I don't have a mic currently (I accidentally cut the cord :laugh: )

So far I'm 3 - 0 while a commander (3 wins, no losses) and i think i'm pretty good at it. I think I stay attentive to my commanding powers while still helping the team on the battlefront.

It's just rare for me to be a commander because of my low ranking currently at 843 global score. :hmm: It's going up though!

Hahahhah long story short:

I was cleaning the cords under my computer (uncutting the plastic cord organizer things) and reorganizing them and while I was cutting one of the plastic holders, I cut the tiny mic cord along with it.

I cried.

i think being commander is boring as hell. i like to be out shooting people not staying at main base giving orders to people. and half the time they dont even listen.

you've obviously never experienced uncooperative players/squads. I love it when they refuse to accept orders just to spite you. Once you get foolish teamates that request arty on themselves...or just run into it...or that simply dont work to keep the enemies on their toes, you'll certainly find some negatives in being commander. BTW, im not sure why you dont think you'll ever get the chance given your rank. I mean, sure theres times when you wont be able to due to a higher rank applying at the same time. But in reality, i've seen about 30% of the times i play, there is NO commander. Probably for the reasons listed above...at any rate, always apply and im sure you'll get it a load of times.

Okay, good....thank you....Command mode is awesome when u actually get in a server with working VOIP, and a cooperative team...or at least a server where they're smart enough to run in the OPPOSITE direction of the Large Red Gun on the mini map :)

I play commander as often as possible
and am now the default commander in our Clan scrims
it IS fun - but you NEED squads, that listen
and even then, it is usualy just the squad leaders
I tried VOIP in EVERY game and have had ony 2 replies @ ! !

when we have clan members in a game - and use Ventrillo - well - we rock - not becasue we are so 'good'
(well, we are fair) - but voice comms are REEEEEALLLy effective
I cannot ever imagine playing without it again
(well - still fun :) but not nearly as effective)

I played on a cr*p server last night.

There were 16 people per side and it was on operation clean sweep (hate that map)

There was no commander for about 5 min, so I applied, and to my surprise I got it. No sooner had I accepted than the mutiny votes started. Every 2 min there was another mutiny vote.

Nobody asked for arty, supplies or scans and yet they felt the need to mutiny. WHAT???

Eventually one squad leader did start to ask for supplies and UAV scans, so he got whatever he wanted.

I would do regular scans, spot snipers and call them out, spot tanks etc. I would arty the enemy flag when I saw a large concentration of troops there, drop supplies near my troops, warn of incoming troops. STILL the mutiny votes kept coming. All the time I was in an APC providing fire support and ammo drops (support class). Still the mutiny votes.

Next round, no commander again. I applied 7 or 8 times and never got accepted, BUT no one else applied either so we went the whole round with no commander and no support. They seemed intent on NOT having a commander.

It then degenerated into a helicopter flag fest, so I left.

Yup, it`s actually pretty nice when you use VOIP and have all your squads communicate effectively with you...

Yeah, its fun until a friendly loaded chopper flies into your artillery barrage and you get punished by 6 guys for teamkilling and are lucky if you dont get kick-banned.
