    should i get a 9700 pro?

Money is a huge issue. I saw a b grade 9700 pro for £47 including VAT and I am considering buying it to replace my 9800 pro which looks to be fecked.

I may save up money but my pearants wont let me buy an expensive graphics card, so im kind of stuck. Anything around the £56 price range would be good.

I cant spend a lot of money, i just want to play BF2 good....

    Heres my specs-

    p4 2.4ghz
    1GB ram

what are the speeds of the 9700 pro??

I looked on google and only found benchmarks and stuff.

    thanks

My second machine that I let my girlfriend and mates play on has those exact specs...

It runs BF2 ok on low-med settings.... the cpu and memory are ok, it's the card that let's it down a bit.
It can run on med settings but expect a bit of chug here and there.... not too bad though.

I live in Australia so I dunno what prices cards are over there in the UK... I just bought a new Radeon X850XT for my main machine for $700 (about 305 pounds) Is that cheap or expensive for u guys?

            I see.

What is your mobo, would you consider moving round the cards you have, on your Mobo, to help the fit of an arctic cooling, or consider a zalman?

I had a 9800 pro and the stock fan failed after 5 months, i fitted an arctic cooler after checking with the suppliers via mail on the warranty issue, the supplier stated that fitting an arctic cooler on the card would "not" invalidate the warranty for the card. (not all suppliers are the same though)

I'm not to sure that is the case with a void warranty, check with the supplier m8, it's just the price of a phone call and would save you all the $£.

save up some more cash. i dunno, you said parents so you must be youngish. get a paper route or sell drugs or something.
theres no point upgrading in tiny steps, you're better off getting something that will last you awhile rather than something that will need to be upgraded in another 3 months.
i had the 9500pro for about 2years i think. only recently upgraded.

This is the 9800pro I brought recently. It's great, runs BF2 very well and has arctic cooling fitted already. Nice for a bit of O/C if you want, or just a very reliable fan otherwise. £82-a bit above your price, really, but I think it'd serve you better than a 9700 which you'll want to replace in the end for better games anyway?

Just a more reasonably priced option to choose from. :)

as a proud owner of a 9700pro ( well, a 9500pro modded to 97000pro and oced to 300/300 ) i'd say that it can run BF2 pretty smooth at 1024X768 med settings AA2X... but if you can fix that 9800 should go way better

Perhaps it is because you have some old drivers? Try to use a new one. If this won't work, perhaps a format works.
