md5error

i just bought this game the other day and i'm attepting to install it on a pc i just built the other day (so hardware/driver problems are not out of the question, although video and sound drivers are up to date). when i go to install the game, it starts off fine then with a about 15-20 what it seems like random files i get an "md5error" and it asks me if i want to retry. if i retry, i just get the same error and if i dont retry it moves on, however the game doesn't work. none of the disks ( i have the cd version) have scratches on them and the game installs fine on my laptop (which is way below the minimum specs of bf2. any help or clues would be appreciated. below are my specs

Windows XP Professional SP1
Pentium 4 3.0GHz
1 gig Rosewill DDR400 RAM
Sapphire ATI Radeon 9600 256MB
160 GB Magnetic Data Technologies HDD

If it where a bad DVD drive it should say something about a CRC ... does it give you any filenames? my first guess would be a residing virus infecting exe and dll files between copy/extracting and md5 check ....

i just ran a virus scan and there were no viruses. yes it does say the file names but there are many and it seems to be at random

... there is that nice little note at the end of the sheet provided by EA (I still refuse to call it a "user manual") stating that their used copy protection technology might "decrease" your CD/DVD drives performance.

You could create a virtual DVD drive using "Alcohol 120%" and "virtual daemon tools" (google it). Or put the DVD into you laptop wire both together and install BF2 over the LAN ... that might take a while but it should work. (you are not able to play BF2 with a remote drive but after the install your desktops DVD drive might work good enough to play the game)

You are trying to do the image at ur Laptop not ur desktop right?

actually i wasn't but now that i tried, i still got a disk read error

i found out the problem. i found someone else with a similar problem on another board. it seems my fsb/dram ratio was incorrect. i hope that helps anyone else. thanks for your ideas though.
