    ARGH!!! FPS issues

I have a 9800pro, AMD XP2800, 1 gig 3200 ram, audigy 2 zs. I'm running everything at medium except texture filtering, dynamic shadows, dynamic lighting, and textures at low. AA is set to 2x and af is off. My sound settings are at high, hardware, and eax on. I didn't buy a soundcard and uber expensive 5.1 speakers for nothing, so I don't want to lower those. And I'm STILL getting bad fps in every place with lots of fighting. What can I do about that? I don't know the exact fps numbers, but its definitly not smooth. AFAIK at those settings I should definitly be getting better performance. I have followed lots of tweakguides, optimized windows and basically everything I can think of. WTF? Why am I getting such low performance? I think this might be linked to the open al drivers I installed for my soundcard, but I'm not sure.

9800 is pretty old card, it might handle medium but 2xAA is just too much for it, turn off AA (force it off). AA cause extreme stuttering on slow cards. My 6600GT cant run smooth with 2xAA, so 9800 definatly cant.

since the patch Daqing Oilfields has been an FPS lag fest for me, **** knows why! got an AMD 3500, 2gb RAM and X800XT

my suggestion is turn off AA but up the Res to counter it, AA has a hard hit on performance, and a 9800pro, although it still holds its own, is a bit outdated now, i couldnt even run BFV with AA on with my 9800pro, let alone BF2.

Turn Dynamic Shadows and Dynamic Lighting off.

Forgot to mention, I dont know if its just me or not, latest forceware forces 4x AA on the game, when I go to profiles the default setting is at 4x unless I override it to 0. Thats all with my in-game setting set to no-AA and re-optimized.

So if you turned off in-game AA but stil find the game looks like AA enabled force it off at driver-level.

Nah, when I disable it, it stays disabled. It looked like a 3 year old game though. I can't get my res up because of my shitty monitor. I'll be upgrading to an X800xl in october though. The weird thing is, Gulf of Oman, 1 of the best looking maps in the game imho, runs great. :hmm:

Well, you're right you didn't buy them for nothing, but it causes problems in the game currently. Come then end of August these issues should be fixed. So temporarily you'll have to use another settings.

Turn EAX off, if that doesn't work, turn it down to medium, if that doesn't work put it to software.

Also, in dxdiag turn the audio's Hardware Acceleration down to Basic and see if that changes anything.

I seemed to have fixed the crashes and such with my Audigy2. Goto http://www.creative.com/support/

Click on downloads and Install both EAX 4.0 and the Beta drivers w/OpenAL.

The 9800 has a 256-bit memory interface whilst the 6600GT only has 128-bit memory interface, so it may be able to run 2XAA smothly.

I had NO problems running at 1024X768 2XAA with my 256bit 256MB 9800 Pro. Now I had it o/c to 420/420 but still. I was getting 40-50fps with lows of mid 20s.... Everything on HIGH except for dynamic shadows (MED).

                          I only have an A64 2800 @1.9Ghz 768MB RAM...( I currently own a X800Pro VIVO, not unlocked).

people should specifiy whether its a 9800 pro 128mb or 9800 pro 256mb. it makes a big difference in performance for bf2.
