    Squad leader etiquette

We've all had them... Idiot squad leaders just off doing their own thing whilst their squad is running around the map aimlessly.

Rule 1: Squad leaders should never be in attack vehicles. This includes tanks, airplanes and attack helicopters. If you want to fly that badly, leave the squad and rejoin.
Rule 2: Squad leaders should always have a current set of orders given to the squad.
Rule 3: Squad leaders should always accept orders given to them by the commander except in cases where the commander is giving you the order for that one engineer in your squad to repair the UAV trailer.
Rule 4: Squad leaders should have a microphone. It helps keep the squad working together and allows him/her to ask the commander for support more easily.
Rule 5: Prune your squad. If you notice somebody is AFK or if somebody is never spawning on you, give them the boot. Make room for people who are actually going to aid the squad.
Rule 6: Try and stay a short distance away from the fighting. You're more useful to your squad alive. Sniper rifles, spec-ops weapons and the L85 are great for squad leaders.

Ahhh it feels good to get that off my chest :) . If anyone wants to add anything, go for it.

I play Squad Leader alot, and I agree with all of your statements. But I like to be right in the Firefight instead of a short distance. I rarely die with a squad and I always have my Squad with me and always a medic or two.

i dont mind squad leaders fighting up close, but its when they repeatedly die. I'd prefer them to stay back, just to be sure.

I agree with all of your reasons...

There are way too many times when I am in a six member squad, and the SL decides to take a one-man jet out for a spin...

I play on public servers, and im not in a clan , and 90% of the time the squad i join has no orders, no communication , and no teamwork. i try to use the VOIP systom , but i t rarly results in a well orginized squad.

I'm exactly the same way. Only I had that I play as squad leader since I don't want some other squad leader telling me what to do and I want the nice green name. BF2 needs the ab command.

These are okay ideas, but what if you wanted a relatively small squad? Then it might make sense to pilot an attack helicopter or drive a tank/apc as squad leader.

i dont necessarily agree that SLs must stay away from the fight. as an SL, i usually just play like a normal squadmember while giving orders and such. plus its funny when someone thinks they are gunna get you and then you squad spawns and it turns into a 5v1... lol
