New mobo = re-install Windows?

Simple question.

If I change my motherboard but keep everything else, do I have to re-install Windows? Many computer stores says yes, but I'm not sure about that. Any comments?

You'll probably have to re-activate Windows XP, but you won't have to reinstall it.

You will most likely have to reinstall, altering hardware like harddisk controller or other vital controllers will make you BSOD in most cases when booting.

Let me clarify if the motherboard is different than you current one and has different chipset and I/O controllers then most likely yes, if it is just like the one you have now, then no problem.

I just changed my motherboard from an ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe to an ABIT NF7-S2G.
They have the same chipset (nVIDIA nForce 2 Ultra 400) and everything works fine. No need to reinstall windows.
I dont know what happens when you change chipsets though =D Been some time ago when I did that.
