You are going to say i'm nut's and way off base, that a program would not and should not use gathered hardware information in this way.
But after a bit of altering BIOS for CPU, tinkering, file altering, on my own BF2 game program on my hard drive this is what I discovered.
1) If you have overclocked your CPU this may lead to instability in your operating system e.g. Windows XP which in turn could lead to files being altered / set to run, by other programs
which could / will lead to the BF2 game instability crashing etc corrupt files not connecting to server etc.
2) if in BIOS you have altered your CPU speed to an unspecified / recognised CPU speed causing instability in your system no matter how small or big the reaction by the BF2 game will be Instability as well possibly leading to crash
How i discovered it ...
I first uninstalled and re installed the BF2 game, 1.02 patch and PB.
I reinstalled all the above and tested (all was fine)
I over clocked my CPU to 2.49 so it was an undetectable clock speed (not able to be categorised into e.g. 3000 or a 3000+ or mobile cpu etc by BIOS) then tested the game and sure enough i was crashing to desk and getting cannot connect to server.
Then reset the BIOS for my CPU to a recognisable speed and tested, the game worked fine again.
Then with the game working fine altered one or two files the way an unstable OS would operate and sure enough the "corrupt files" error message and the "cannot connect to server" started to show.
(You can also get an unstable operating system by having conflict of files etc, by not storing programs properly, in separate files on your Hard Drive)
I know that the game dose not like overclocked graphics cards and this was what lead me to doing these tests.
So my revised advice to people that are having these issues would be to, as well as other information previously gathered, check your BIOS for the speed of your CPU, don't overclock, consider how stable your operating system is working and address the issues.
Do any alterations at your own risk.
