this is definetly a memory problem. I had a shotty piece of RAM so I bough some corsair and put it in. It didnt work at first so i switched the two sticks I had in my system (one corsair and one frmo dell) because someone said something about the timing being off depending on the order that the sticks are in and BINGO it worked. playing fine with no problems for like 3 days now. hope this helps someone.

For those of you hoping that that the 1.03 patch will fix this problem for you I don't think it will. I had the "This server only allows players with unmodified content to join" for ages, I uninstalled and reinstalled/patched many many times using different methods, results would differ with sometimes being able to get onto 70% of servers and sometime 10%.

I then came accross this thread about the md5 checks and I had untold errors which told me files were not being copied over correctly from the game dvd, was it the dvd? nope tried a mates one. was it the dvd player? no swapped that out with a spare. was it the hard drive? nope tried a spare there too. was is the RAM? well I thought it couldn't be that surely brand new corsair couldn't go wrong, so I ran a memtest ouch errors all over the place. Luckily my mobo had 4 slots 2 x 1G so removed 2 banks (leaving me with 1GB), with the faulty chip removed I reinstalled the game re-patched (1.02) and what do you know no md5 errors, onto the game no crashes to desktop, I can get into 100% of ranked games and all is rosey again.

faulty chips are on their way back to corsair (checked them in a mates PC and they failed there too)

so after about 2 months of frustration I finally got a result, I hope it stays this way.

Hey guys!!!!
Ok, after spending two days on this stupid little problem I finally pin-pinted the fix! IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE PATCH!!!!!! Some of you probably experienced this problem for a first time after the path......ITS quite simple!!!!! TURN OFF ALL Firewall settings, both generic and specific! Thats it! It seems the game has a problem with any firewall settings, and as a result claims you have modified content because of it!
