    Frequent Black Surfaces

    ok guys i recently upgraded my vid card from a 6600gt to a x800xl. I also have a athlon 64 3200+, 1GB corsair memory. My settings for battlefield 2 are everything high, shadows off, texture, dynamic lighting, and lighting all on medium. Resolution 1280 x 1024 with sound on low. I get good fps averaging about 60 and when i get another gig of ram i will up some of the settings like bumping the sound up to medium.

    The problem is that some of the surfaces like the mountains and the buildings often turn completly black. I am not sure what the problem could be as the video card is two days old and has not been overclocked at all. Does anyone else have this problem? I never had it with my 6600gt.

    Thanks! :)

    This i think is to do with the drivers and ATi are currently hard at work to fix this problem

        Not sure if it is the samme issue, but this from ATI:

        From release notes on Catalyst 5.7:
        Battlefield 2: Geometry corruption or missing textures maybe noticed when playing the game for an extended period of time under Windows XP with an ATI RadeonĀ® X800 XT installed. Further details can be found in topic number 737-19709
        This is 737-19709:
        Total Battlefield 2: Textures missing in various scenes

        The information in this article applies to the following configuration(s):

        * Total Battlefield 2
        * Radeon X800 Series
        * CATALYST 5.5 and 5.6

        During online game play, you may experience missing textures in various scenes. This issue is intermitent and does not occur in all system configurations and maps.

        Workaround: Set texture quality from high to medium

        ATI Engineering has been advised of this issue and is investigating. Any updates will be published when they become available.

            ok i just started playing it again. After 3 minutes the surfaces started flickering and eventually i got this blue screen and the computer restarted itself. Whats the deal? Are we just not suppose to play until it gets fixed?

                yea im with you on that one. I just played counter strike source for the first time in 3 months just to test out my x800xl. With 1280 x 1024 resolution, 4xAA and every setting on high I averaged 110fps. I know that is a more ATi favored game, but still, BF2 should be running with no problems, but of course its not.

                I would like to dis EA but they make some good madden games which i personally play a lot.
