    Two Gameplay/Technical Issues

Well, it sucks that my first post on these forums has to be asking for help but that's the way it turned out :P I have two questions that I didn't really think fit within bug reports. Firstly, whenever I open the game and the login screen appears, there is a text that goes across the screen saying "LOCERROR_unable to open current profile." Reinstalling didn't fix the problem. It doesn't seem to have an actual effect on gameplay or anything, besides muting the music in the login screen, but I would still like to know what is wrong and if I can fix it.

Secondly, whenever I play, I seem to notice what I describe as "choppiness." It occurs dominantly on straight, skinny objects such as lamp posts and ladders, but also on tall distant objects such as the power plant "chimneys." It doesn't really affect me when I am in the heat of combat, but when I turn my head quickly enough or if I am strolling around, it does get to me. Does this happen to most people? Is it because I am playing on a laptop?

Any help that anyone can give on this matter would be EXTREMELY appreciated.

Check out some of the tech help forums about forcing different resolutions if your 'choppiness' is what I think it is. If the in-game options don't have one for your laptop's native resolution just use the commands to force the game into that resolution and things should look better for you (because your screen isn't having to 'up-mix' the lower resolution's video information into stuff that works on the screen). If you're talking 'choppiness' in the usual sense (very sudden framerate drop) that is because of any one of a number of problems, ranging from stuff like during-play updates to punkbuster, the server itself becoming overloaded, and a terribly inadiquate system of caching textures (basically the first time you see a given texture is when it is cached for future use... so on your first round of a map expect extra chop as you move around).

No clue about the first problem.

When/if you uninstall, delete the BF2 folder from within My Documents. This may or maynot fix your error, but it's the only thing I could think of.

Thelron, if we are thinking the same way, then it is the first type of choppiness that I am experiencing, as there is no 1920X"whatever" resolution choice in the video options. I will follow your suggestions and see if that fixes the problems. Thanks infinitely :)

          "add this line to your bf2 shorcut: +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1280 +szy 1024"

Is this the instruction you were thinking of? I entered this, with my values, in the properties of the BF2 Play Now Shortcut in the target line and started the game up. I went to video options and it didn't show that it was at 1920X1200 but rather still 1600X1200. I played the game and I still had the choppiness. It's hard to explain, but it's like I can see lines running up the various skinny objects when I turn my head. I almost need to show someone so they can understand. I just wish I knew whether it was an issue with my 6800 Ultra or a problem/normal thing with the game.
