Due to the lack of servers, if you are using the automatic, "Play Now" the issue could be that you are joining a server with high ping therefore the chances of you getting connection interruptions Ci's or the error message >>>" There is a problem with your connection" will be high risk.

The consideration for online players and EA is to use one or the other to join servers "not both".

Preferably choose your own server from a/the list manually.

This will help peoples connection rate and reduce lag in servers and players get to use low ping servers.

      Get rid of
the "PLAY NOW" option EA its foe Xboxes and play stations only.

Your FPS are more than good.
What server are you connecting to and what PING are you getting for the server before join it.
IMHO IT's not your rig but connection issues.
      It's probably not your fault.

Use manual connection to connect to online game for smaller ping.

      Sharky

BTW did you know that the yellow bar on top of the yellow triangle next to the word ping...... once the page has loaded if you click on the before mentioned yellow icon twice, it will produce the ping list from smallest ping to largest

Please put up your rig/sys specs and connection specs router wifi firewire etc.

          My spec is fine.

P4 3.0 with hyper threading enabled
          1.1gb or ram
          Radeon 9800 Pro.
          1Mb connection to the interweb.

I've now removed the movies all together on the advice of EA tech support.
I've removed the 'playnow 1' option from the icon start up so I dont connect to a server when i finally login, the menu loads.

          thanks shark

Since patching my game (allready reinstalled and repatched twice), my game is all you-know-what up. It loads right, but then either during the logon process or when clicking the Multiplayer tab it just shuts down and I am back in windows...any ideas. Maybe some paths or something that aren't right?
anyone, any ideas, EA support is...well you know...SLOW
            P4 2Ghz, 9600 Radeon, 1 GB Ram.

            Thanks

when my bf2 starts i get a chioce to login to the defaut offline ac or my ea nickname ac then i go into the main menu and select multiplayer from there, then the server list comes up and i join a server. if i click on the play now button it always says the server is full or something. your better off picking your own.

Sorry to bother you 2, but (CAD)Vuue and Killa4live, can you post your sys/rig specs plz i have a hunch!

Also have you recently fitted any new hardware ram and the such like?

What headphones and / joysticks used, if any, are they USB connected.

I don't need to know the colour of your pants though, ok

I have a good pc so thats not the problem, it worked until tuesday. But we havent installed any new hardware.

as far as i know =

Geforce FX 5700LE iwth 77.76 drivers and DirectX 9.0C
                          Pentium 4 CPU 4 3.00 GHz
                          Clockspeed 3.00 GHz, 512 MB
No Joystick, a USB Photodrive, and no Microphones

Everything worked ok, also with patch, but suddenly i belive tuesday or wednesday evening it went giving "Failed to connect to server" messages.
maybe my router(Sweex) has done something and blocked ports, but if he done that i wouldnt know how to reopen them.
But somehow i get in sometimes(i mean 1 in the 50 trys) so....

ok killa4allive just a re-cap for me plz.
Are you, or are you not, using the "play now" option, to connect to a server for a game?
on Tuesday,....... or before, was there "any" changes at all ("anything", no matter how small you think they were), made to your comp before the problem started?

plz copy and paste to your reply no matter how long it may be a diagnosis file > dmp < that may have been created to help resolve your problem. Check the following directory on your computer to discover if the file is available:
                            How to find >
start > My Documents > Battlefield 2 > dmp > click on the text document in a note pad file > copy and paste to your reply > this will not harm your bf2 program and as far as i know is not a security risk.

It may shed some more light, I hope.

You are going to say i'm nut's and way off base, that a program would not and should not use gathered hardware information in this way.
But after a bit of altering BIOS for CPU, tinkering, file altering, on my own BF2 game program on my hard drive this is what I discovered.

                                1) If you have overclocked your CPU this may lead to instability in your operating system e.g. Windows XP which in turn could lead to files being altered / set to run, by other programs
which could / will lead to the BF2 game instability crashing etc corrupt files not connecting to server etc.

                                2) if in BIOS you have altered your CPU speed to an unspecified / recognised CPU speed causing instability in your system no matter how small or big the reaction by the BF2 game will be Instability as well possibly leading to crash

                                How i discovered it ...
I first uninstalled and re installed the BF2 game, 1.02 patch and PB.
I reinstalled all the above and tested (all was fine)
I over clocked my CPU to 2.49 so it was an undetectable clock speed (not able to be categorised into e.g. 3000 or a 3000+ or mobile cpu etc by BIOS) then tested the game and sure enough i was crashing to desk and getting cannot connect to server.
Then reset the BIOS for my CPU to a recognisable speed and tested, the game worked fine again.

Then with the game working fine altered one or two files the way an unstable OS would operate and sure enough the "corrupt files" error message and the "cannot connect to server" started to show.
(You can also get an unstable operating system by having conflict of files etc, by not storing programs properly, in separate files on your Hard Drive)

I then uninstalled and re installed the BF2 game, 1.02 patch and PB.
I finaly reinstalled all the above and re-tested (all is finaly fine)

I know that the game dose not like overclocked graphics cards and this was what lead me to doing these tests.

So my revised advice to people that are having these issues would be to as well as other information previously gathered, check your BIOS for the speed of your CPU, don't overclock, consider how stable your operating system is working and address the issues.

Do any alterations at your own risk.

                                sharky
