Part of the patch was to fix the multiplayer issues and you did the following several times.
You can't patch over a patch over a patch you may get away with it twice but its not recommended doing the patch more than once,...as it will cause conflict of files.

So it has to be something to do with the new patch :s and yes I've downloaded the patch from severeal different sources to be sure ;(

    </B>

You have found the answer m8

Note also You can't patch v 1.02 (the new hot fix) over v1.01 (the old first patch).

You must completely uninstall the game as told by EA first, help link..see Tyranus thread in this link.................. http://forums.totalbf2.com/showthread.php?t=15912

Then install patch how to..... http://forums.totalbf2.com/showthread.php?t=16816

Any issues when Downloading and patching.....Some Issues Solved......

This may apply to you Corporal Taylor and others. (try and read between the lines of the following).

You have corrupted files m8 the patch did not know which BF2 file to install to therefore you had to do it manually.
(you probably have had problems with the game before now and left some files in your drive) If I were you i would manually delete all bf2 files and reinstall)

I would look into it m8 if you want the game to run properly!

If you get "patch failed error" this could mean.....

    1) Your download, of files for the patch, did not complete properly. (re download the patch and save it in a new file (renamed) then run.

    2) Somewhere in installing, your bf2 game program files and/or the dl of the patch have become corrupted (for best results reinstall the game and re-download the patch)

    3) You did not have enough space on Hard Drive for patch.

    Then/now......
Install punkbuster file ..... How to http://forums.totalbf2.com/showthread.php?t=16656

          P4 2.4
          Asus P4G8X Deluxe Motherboard
          OnBoard AC'97 Realtek Sound Card
          1gig Dual Channel DDR RAM / 4 x 256 PC2100
          60gig Maxtor Harddrive / 30gig Free
          ADSL 512 / 256
GeForce FX5700Ultra 128mb (Running Nvidia 77.30 i think, the ones of the BF2 disc anyway)
WinXP Pro SP2 all latest updates.

My system isnt good i agree, but it meets the requirement minimum specs and 1.00 clean install play's fine. My connection isnt great but i tested on my Bro's 2meg down cable and still the same problems.

This is worth mentioning: EA recomended i do a clean install unpatched, replace my entire bf2 directory with my bro's working patched directory. That didnt work either, still 'Unmodified Content'.

Your problem is a software / program issue, not necessarily a hardware one!

Did you follow these rules ? (you must reboot when asked)

            - Uninstall the game
            - REBOOT
            - Install the game
            - REBOOT (Don't load the game)
            - Reinstall the patch
            - Reinstall Punkbuster

Your Hardware some things to consider..........................
            P4 2.4 er ok.....But is it running at 2.4?

            Asus P4G8X Deluxe Motherboard ....ok

OnBoard AC'97 Realtek Sound Card ........Have you updated the drivers for this recently?
If you use a sound card you will use less resources / stress on your cpu.

1gig Dual Channel DDR RAM / 4 x 256 PC2100 dose your sys specs recognise all 4 sticks of ram giving you 1GB in/on sys properties. Have you set your BIOS to see the RAM. Are all the sticks the same (eg same manufacturer all PC2100 DDR RAM)

60gig Maxtor Harddrive / 30gig Free............... seems ok

            ADSL 512 / 256 ...............Minimum?

GeForce FX5700Ultra 128mb (Running Nvidia 77.30 i think, the ones of the BF2 disc anyway) ....................................... Minimum Specification

WinXP Pro SP2 all latest updates. N/A

From the in game "Read Me" file.. as you say "it meets the requirement minimum specs"
            Minimum Specification:
            CPU: 1.7 Ghz
            RAM: 512 Mb
Video Card: NVidia GeForce FX 5700, ATI Radeon 8500 or ATI Radeon 9500
            with 128 Mb of RAM

            Recommended Specification:
            CPU: 2.4 Ghz
            RAM: 1 Gb
Video Card with at least 256 Mb of RAM

              TRY my recommendation

If your game worked before the patch was released...

PATCH THE GAME AGAIN IN SAFE MODE!

              Redownload the patch from battlefield2.ea.com

              to go to safe mode

tap f8 until you see windows advanced option
              choose "safe mode"
              Choose your operating system
              Login using your username

              PATCH THE GAME AGAIN

Restart to normal mode... it should work FINE!

Not a punkbuster issue m8, i get the same error message on non-punkbuster servers.

I have pretty recent drivers, my Bro has an almost identical system to mine, same board etc. and he hasnt updated his sound card drivers since OS install, so its not that.

Have you got your HD partitioned?

                        A) If not and you are just using C: to store all, then uninstall 1) BF2 files, 2) all patch files 3) all punkbuster files
the way you have done in the past.......

Then use the "windows" search tool hunt out and "kill" delete all 1) BF2 files, 2) all patch files 3) all punkbuster files found on this C: drive.

If you have found any files that still exist on your hard drive "after" uninstalling them the way you have done in the past using windows search tool then IMHO you are half way there to solving your problem.

                        B) If you "have partitioned your HD" then do the above for all partitions of your HD.

It's a long winded way but better than a fresh start "wipe/reinstall" for your HD.

My drive isnt partitioned. What do you mean use windows search? What file name(s) or extensions am i searching for? Or do you mean something else?

                              This work for my friendS

                              1. uninstall the game manually:

You can manually uninstall the game by removing the files and registry keys associated with it. Be sure to follow these steps exactly as they appear to prevent accidental file/program deletion on your system.

                              To delete the save files:

                              Open My Documents.
Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.
To delete the game files (in the default location):

                              Open My Computer.
                              Open the C drive.
                              Open the Program Files folder.
                              Open the EA GAMES folder.
Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.
                              Close all open windows.
Right-click on the Recycle Bin and choose Empty Recycle Bin.
To edit the registry and remove Battlefield 2:

                              Click on the Start button.
                              Click on Run.
Type regedit in the text field.
