Re: Possible Fix : BF2.exe has encountered a problem
After investigating many forums, reinstalling the game about 4 or 5 times, uninstalling in between, and upgrading all of my nvidia drivers and all of that jazz, I found MY problem with this "bf2.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. Sorry for the inconvenience." fault. I found it by trying to run Battlefield Vietnam, another EA game in the series, it wouldn't run...I had some Microsoft games (Rise of Nations) installed and I tried those, those worked. When I tried BF Vietnam, it said I didn't have access to this folder and wouldn't do a thing (but this error message was actually useful): C:\Documents and Settings\"YOUR WINDOWS USER ACCOUNT NAME HERE"\Local Settings...
I looked for that folder, but in my settings, that particular folder (and subfolders) were hidden and marked as read only. Right click on the most parent directory (i.e. if Local Settings is hidden, right click on "YOUR...HERE") and click properties, uncheck read only, and uncheck hidden. You may select the option for all subfolders as well, and for this directory it's a great idea. Hit ok. Windows should make some adjustments, and then try running your BF2 icon again...for me, it started up like a champ. I hope this helps, this is a lingering problem...I wish the people that get paid tons of money and have been schooled for years in computer operations and programming could resolve these issues...I know nothing about computers, but just did about 4 hours of research online...worked for me, and I hope it benefits you. Good luck.
