              ATI 9600XT crash

Finally got around to trying BF2 at a friends place and was instantly hooked. I purchased BF2 + Special Forces and had no problems installing.

That said, the game starts up fine, but whenever I try to create a singleplayer game it instantly crashes to desktop after saying "Starting server". I have tried patching to v1.12, and even changing my drivers from Omega's to the newest ATI catalyst drivers.

My computer specs are as follows:
              P4 3.0ghz
              Radeon 9600XT
              1024meg ram
              Windows XP

Anyone else having this problem or know how to fix it? I feel like I've tried everything -- even tried disabling hyperthreading like someone suggesting earlier in the thread to no avail. The game crashes at the same spot every time and in both BF2 and in Special Forces.

                Re: ATI Users

My system is only 9 months old and I ran into major probs with the new patch. I tried EVERYTHING at least twice, drivers, game reloads etc. Finally I just said F#@K it and did a complete OS(XP PRO) reload making sure I had all of the latest drivers first. Once the pc was back up and running on the web, run- DO NOT WALK- to the windows updates and update EVERYTHING for the OS before loading any video drivers. Could be as much as 100mb or more of os updates. Once that is done then load video drvrs, I did not go to 5.13 due to SpecOps prob, stayed with 5.12 then loaded game(s) and patch. Since then no probs. NONE! It is definitely worth the time to do this if all else fails.

                  Gecube Ati x700 256mb

                  5.13 Extreme Cat Drivers.

I used to have everything on High, no lag. Since 1.12, ahoy Memory leak

Never had a problem with nightvision or such with 5.13 or 5.12.
