Hm, how much dmg does a pilum shot do to a transport?

      It's about a 2 hit kill right?

        I love transporting duty !

Just fly to a silo. people eject. Keep circling the silo with some gunners to clear out infantry and than land pick up the squad and fly to the next.

        Gotta love those actions :)

If the pilot makes a rough landing it can be a 1 hit kill. But yeah, a full health transporter takes 2 shots to take down

If I fly while there is till action going on, it will usually be one of two situations.
            1. I am doing the "transport pilot" role, in which case I will do passes over relevant silos, allowing people to spawn and drop to the silo
            2. I am using it as a transport to my squad / target, in which case I will do a slow pass over the silo to let the impatient out, and then set it down in safety a bit away
What you fail to grasp is that you are an exception instead of the norm. Most pub stars consider the transport their personal taxi and have little clue to its employment. It is one of the most powerful assets in the game when used correctly.

Far too often I see stolen transports because of incompetence or people who land them only to be quickly destroyed by defenders and there goes valuable time in capping needed silos. I am certain many of us have set traps for dummys who like to land transports. I know I do.

I'm on a mission to teach bailout pilots a lesson. From now on if someone bails out when i am on their transport and there was no threat, I will take the pilot seat, chase down that stupid pilot and drop the transporter on his stupid head. I already did it to one guy and it was quite funny. The key is to fly low and just bailout so you don't get charged with a TK :) I'm surprised the transporter didn't land on me too

Once I am able to get back into the battlefield, I could devote more time helping others with being a constant transporter. I am already a brig general so points aren't really that important right now.

god yes I hate this. Usually some smartass will hop in the transport, it fills up instantly, he lands at the closest silo and gets out, or even worse, stays in the transport. Go spamming doesn't work either.

I wish you could say something more forcefull and obvious like "****ing take off ***"

I don't think you can play this game for more than an hour without grasping that.

I assumed we where talking about the optimal use of the Transport, not the actual use.
Like most others I have had plenty of chances to see the difference

I'm not a pilot myself, but I know what I see both as defender and attacker for transports.

-- For silos/flags: Since there are little to no chances of someone killing soldiers podding down from it, come fast and keep the transport over the spot for a few seconds until the team pods down on any enemy vehicle, then *leave* the spot and circle around while the silo/flag is taken, before you become a nice fat target for any pilum or SAAW team or a tank cannon. Come back a minute later, when the team has taken the silo/flag and set up defenses (mines/guns). Keep the transport mobile all the time, even if it means one soldier less when capturing the target. A landed transport is a far easier target (except for SAAW) to kill and let the squad hang out dry on the spot.

-- For Titan: Come fast flying a little lower than the enemy Titan, then "emerge" from the back and land the transport on the upper or lower deck (and hope no MM are around). For the starting battle, the transport can pass at low speed high above the Titan so that some can pod down on the rooftop to clean the place up before the main attack. Unfortunately, a skilled defending team with coordination on the Titan guns can make it virtually inaccessible (if all guns are healthy). If and when landed, *defend* it on the spot, before rushing your team inside the enemy Titan. The pilot can do that, switching places between cockpit/guns.

In short: Air transport is fast and strong, but it's still a flying APC, not a gunship or a tank. It's also a superb spawn point on enemy Titans. If you mess it up, you probably take 3-4 others with you when you're killed.

I rarely get taken out by pilums, but I always laugh at ppl who try to hit my transport and miss horribly while getting riddled by 2X30mm chainguns

In fact, I think the last time an engineer killed me was because I flew too low and too slow and some motion mines caught on to me :/

Personally I prefer staying at altitude. Drop down to 150-180 meters to give the doorgunners good shots if they're competent, then you can rise back to 250 or more pretty quickly if needed. Makes for a low point round, but I know it can make a big difference in winning the round.

The transport is just way too vulnerable to the gunship when you're climbing, and you have no room to maneuver since you're too low. It may leave guys hoofing it on occasion, but better that then giving a gunship pilot 4-6 easy kills. If I'm in a gunship and see a transport landing to cap silos, I start drooling and circle around to nail them on take-off.

BTW, When the patch comes out (2 gunships per Titan) defensive flying is going to be even more important. If you try and land at every silo you're going to die *a lot.*

I better get some more transport pins before 1.40. Forgot that there are going to be 2 gunships
