I get the point, but... I think it's been quite obvious since the beginning of BF stats tracking that ones global score often tells very little of the players skill.

The score system encourages people to play alot as well as it encourages performing certain tasks that help your team (to rediculous amounts). The top priority in most "commercial" stat tracking systems like this is to most of all reward players that play alot (and thus keep them from playing other games).

If someone plays over 5 hours per day, with the current system, it's quite probable that you end up rather high in the leaderboards.

:) Ever been in an APC with a "noob" ? Then you'd know this is not true. A noob driver will drive the APC straight in the middle of the heaviest action where you are toast in less than a minute. A noob gunner just won't shoot at anything, or concentrates on getting that walkers attention drawn into the APC instead of shooting those engys with Pilums.

I'm not trying to say this guy is actually very skilled or anything like that. I'm just saying that he at least seems to concentrate on killing people/staying alive/playing the game (even if he does it in a way most people would find extremely boring).

He has a ~4 K/D with the APC and a W/L of over 2 so i think he must do something right (even if it was just switching to the winning team and choosing servers/maps where this kind of gameplay is possible )

So to say my point short:
    1. He's far from the worst example of a statpadder
    2. The stats don't tell alot about a persons skill to begin with, so don't hate the player, hate the game (by which i mean the stats system).
    3. Why care so much. I still enjoy playing and i look at my stats to see what i've been doing wrong and how could i improve.

Just because someone is on the leaderboard, doesn't mean they get respect from me. I could care less if you play 8 hours a day, and have a million points, you could still be a douchebag. I value people who have respect, sportsmanship, maturity, and good teamwork, and sure, if u have some good skill that wont hurt.

Tells me that somebody does not like his take on the game

It might be just me but I get a bigger hard-on when I'm shooting guys in infantry fight and finishing in the top echelon of the board instead of titan guns racking kill streaks.

Isn't that how most top people get their way with stats?

Same server, same stuff, same routine, no change.

This is how I managed it.... 95% of Bf2142 was spent in our own CsA server playing 2 conquest 1 titan rotation until i got onto the 3rd page of the leaderboard.. my score were dropping my interest was wagging so i needed a change.. so I started playing on timeless titan server and the change was quite refreshing... My original opinion on the titan mode was negative mainly due to being killed quite alot by our own titan guns but playing on the timeless you dont have that problem lol... so now I play mainly suez either repairing gun or defending silo 3 or 4.. then when the shields go down its defend or attack.. I really enjoy defending our titan and if im doing something that i enjoy even if its the same thing what is wrong with that? I enjoy killing all those rdx bunnies, make me laugh.... so getting to your remark...

So, he like Berlin. He uses vehicles. He likes RDX.

You don't like any of those things. Why is that important? Why do you care what he does?

I read a whole lot of judgements once again from people complaining about how someone chooses to play. Why can't we just let them do what they want to? Because of stats? There are really no stats, just the ones you allow to exist...

                    "...there is no spoon."

If you don't get what I'm trying to say, I'll happily clarify for you.

if you didnt realise already most people play due to stats. i guarantee most would leave the game if they abolished the stat system. It causes a bit of tension when some ******* gets top rank for padding his way to get it.

yeah fair enough let him play like he wants but when people are trying to earn a top rank in a fair manner and someone else gets it by padding, there are gonna be a few moans here and there.

not having a dig at all mate its just what most feel

Yeah, I hear you Slaney and respect what you've got to say, mate.

I guess a point I'd like to make is that the stats have screwed with the game and the gameplay. They don't really have any power unless we give them power. The stats made me feverish to keep playing... until there was no further to go. Then, I gradually lost interest.

I've chosen to not waste energy any longer wanting the ranking system to work differently. It awards those who like to play in ways I don't enjoy.

I'll never be more than a Brigadier and even attaining that was far too easy. The 'private bug' made it happen more than anything else. That makes it hard to be proud of my rank, but I know I've learned to play FPS games at a level far beyond what I started BF2142 at. That's what I really care about. Now, I'm ready to take my new skills to a new game and learn that!

As for really caring about Pickle, or whomever is in the spotlight... I just don't. If I didn't work, have family or friends or a life other than gaming, I'm sure I could work my way up the ranks. But, that's not going to happen because gaming is a hobby, not a way of life.

EDIT: I love counting the little asterisks in people's posts to figure out what swear word they were using...

i agree that to some degree, the whole stats and awards thing has ruined the game. I know alot of the time, i wont be playing just for the fun of the game, i'll be playing because i want that gold badge, or i want that new rank. And sometimes when i get really close but no cigar, it pisses me off. And then i sit back and realize, why the hell am i getting pissed off at a game?

I don't think you get what I was meaning...

I love RDX, Berlin is my 5th favorite map, and the APC is second only to the Air Transport in my books, I love whoring the second position gun (mortars are fun to use... that one's just way overpowered, IMO).

What's bad is that the score system is so effed up that spamming the same [cheap] thing over and over again has proven to be the most effective method.

Sure you can say "there are no stats unless you think there are" but it'd sure as hell be nice to see a ranking of actual skill to see not just if you're higher rank, but rather if you're actually better.

Summary/Clearer wording: why does "total points" have to be the way of ranking people when it's so easy to exploit?

If he is truly a padder, he isn't a very good one. His SPM sucks - 2.24

He's obviously not exploiting, he's just playing the same way very often. If he was cheating, his score would be considerably higher than those of us who got that score playing conquest only, without padding.

If the OP's point was that he is padding by using only one vehicle, then I'm padding too by using just one gun (Baur). This whole time I thought I was just playing with what I considered the most fun equipment in the game...never knew I was padding by doing so.

And I agree with Desert_Fox 100% on the whole total points issue determining rank. Rank on the overall leaderboard should be determined by either Efficiency, KDR, or an average of both along with total score...Of course I only say that because a ranking system done that way would put me in the top 1000, instead of the top 30,000. I can't play video games for 5 hours a day.
