Ok... I have another one for ya. What does "PWNED" stand for? (or any other deviation of it fo that matter) I'm sorry...I just honestly don't know.

PWNED started when people would often press the P instead of the O when they went to type OWNED. Anyways, because PWNED sounded like PAWN which is a chess piece, and it would take a real lack of skill to lose in chess just to a pawn, that mistype held an equally insulting meaning.

AH HA! Mystery solved! Thank you... Now I wont have to lay awake at night trying to figure out what that stood for! (laughing) So, if I wanted to come up with my own acronym for something....hmmm.... Better yet, if I were to use medical terminology to describe killing somone with a bullet it would sound something like this: I just caused a fatal sub-dermal puncture to your body with a metallic sub-sonic lethal projectile causing massive internal hemoraging to your circulatory system. Or FSDPMSSLPCMIHCS! Would that be too much to type during gameplay? I'm sorry....I just couldn't help myself.

its just german for 'best' or something within that line. i think its mainly linked to the german WW2 phrase 'über-mensch'.

on a side note, its proven that most internet-discussions tend to involve nazi-things after a while, so i think that explains the wide use of this prefix (über) on 'teh web' : internet geeks like nazi stuff!

Its true. As an administrator myself, I am often being accused of being a Nazi when it comes to deleting posts etc..., even if they don't know where I come from - which happens to be Germany. And calling me that, reasonably, makes me angry.

This is rumored to be the result of a mistake which caught the attention of many gamers of Battle.Net. The dev meant to type "You've been owned" but mistyped "You've been pwned" or something very similar. Rationalizing that P comes after O gave it a new meaning that you've been so owned so badly that you've been P-owned, or pwned. People really enjoyed this new word and it became a part of popular culture.

1337, or variations thereof, is a reference to the 'elite' or 'leet' player. 1337 is used during in-game chats and it quickly became the opposite of n00b. This is a key word in Hacker Argot, or "Leet Speak" and you should be able to find many references online.

All of these words are egoistic drivel meant to hype the self and demoralize the opposition.
