  • another "there is a problem with your connection" but a little different!

    Hi all
i am having this problem with both bf2 and bf2142
first of all, single player works perfectly and couldn't be any better.

    now:
i start the game, login to online mode, choose a server, connect to the server, and then play for about 20-50seconds, then a message pops up: "THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH YOUR CONNECTION" and the worst case of lag happens - which wont recover even after waiting for up to 5 minutes. i don't get kicked from the server, i just suffer in there with absolutely no control at all (one moment am looking at a tank, the other at the sky, the next at a soldier, the next im dead ) and takes about 1 minute to be alive again and still the same thing happens. no control at all!

    my pc:
    Asus striker extreme motherboard
intel quad core 2.4ghz q6600 cpu
    4gb ddr2 533mhz ram
    bfg 8800gtx 768mb oc2
creative x-fi elite pro sound card
    ** windows vista ultimate 32bit
    my internet is 1mbit adsl
all drivers up to date; bios, nvidia chipset, videocard, sound card and windows updates.

    what ive tried
-im connected via a hard wire to a linksys wrt54gl - thought it might be the problem, so i connected my pc directly to the adsl router - same problem, so ruled the wireless router out.
-turned off nod32 and windows firewall - same thing.
-turned off voip, eax and lowered the video settings to medium - no improvement
    -updated punkbuster
-tried ea's uotrace to a couple of the game servers: loss=0%

i remember a year and a half ago, i had another computer (p4 3.6ghz, intel 915pbl mb, evga 7800gt, audigy platinum, 4gb ram) with windows xp installed on it, i used to play them perfectly - i even got to be gunnery sergeant on bf2, but i left them for a while and got this new pc. back then i had 512kbit adsl (remember now i have 1mbit).

    to sum it up:
i connect to a server on either bf2 and bf2142, play for few seconds, "there is a problem with your connection" pops up, lag occurs with no recovery, i dont get kicked whatever time i wait, i disconnect and open google to look for a new solution .

ps: i play command and conquer 3 online with no problems whatsoever.

    so...
    HELP!!

if anyone has any idea (other than reverting to xp) please please tell me.

    thanks alot for your time

        -updated punkbuster
        -using bf2 1.41 and bf2142 1.25
        -ran as admin
        same thing

        now i have an update!
        i tried playing bf2 now,
and i thought maybe if i join a low number server it would work
        and it did!
if there are 16 players there is negligable lag
but if there are more that message appears

        but y???
        im using 1mbit!
when i was xp and had 512kbit i used to play on 64 players servers!!

        thanks guyz

        edit:
tried playing today on servers that have a maximum of 10-12 players, the msg popps up!!!!
and i waited now on a server and the kicked me for high ping when i got the msg.
so i dont know why it worked like that yesterday!

Have you forwarded your ports in the router?? just a thought?

i tried that, but to see if the router's the problem, i connected my pc directly to the adsl modem, but still got the same result, so i ruled the router being the problem out.

try adding the following to your short cut
              "G:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\BF2142.exe" -A0

this is supposed the set the process affinity to CPU0 and that fix solved all my connection issues.
