A few questions about one of the most hated bugs in 2142 history.

1) What is it's function? I heard it's to do with the in game ads or something.
2) Why is it classified as an important system file and hidden?
3) How exactly does it get corrupted?
4) How come the corrupted file cause it to freeze loading? Does it send it into an ifinite loop or something?

It seems to have replaced icontent.cache, so if we assume the same functionality:

It is a database which contains the ads and information about where they are to be displayed etc.

2) Why is it classified as an important system file and hidden?

Because they don't want us to mess with it. icontent.cache was "cracked" pretty fast, allowing for custom ads

3) How exactly does it get corrupted?

Poor coding is my guess.

4) How come the corrupted file cause it to freeze loading? Does it send it into an ifinite loop or something?

It probably needs to access the file to load the ads. Combine a corrupted file with poor errorhandling and you get a freeze.

did you ever used winRAR to locate it???? i'm pretty sure that every1 has this file, even though some installations dont show the file in win explorer, even with 'show hidden files' on.

you must enable show hidden files and show system files in view options to see this file. i had to trash this file twice just the other day because i started getting the loading freeze again.

Same here, I had the freeze problem a month or so back found the radial solution that fixed it.

All of a sudden a couple of days ago it rears it's ugly head again.

God bless those whizz's that investigated and found the solution. :salute:

forgive for sounding stupid by why can only winrar find it? i cant see it in windows so might give it a go...

mine crashes every game now... even though it doesnt freeze on load :/


edit: weird, winrar does indeed find it... a 14mb file.. spooky :)

Actually now that I changed the name I get the lost to connection thing first when I try to get to a server. Remember? But I didn't get that when I didn't change the name.

Ive been getting that no matter what. Before or After renaming the radial file..

the file has information stored by your 2142 client everytime you load up a map. the client also uses it to look up info as well while loading. everytime you load a map a little bit of info gets stored into it. after the many many times you load a map the file tends to get too large. when the client loads up the very large file into your memory its so large that it causes the system or client to crash. hence why the freezing.

which also explains that deleting this file or renaming it solves the problem. the client creates another one as soon as you load another map.

It shows up in winrar, but not in the folder. (Yes, I have it showing hidden folders)

Dunno why winrar found it tho'.
