Swat 4 Had a very good aiming system and was realistic in factors such as damage and movement, ie 2 bullets in chest would usually kill, head insta kill If damage to arms took place aiming accuracy would plummet down and u wouldnt be able to aim...

Reflecting on that I think wounds to body parts should perhaps be implemented in a mod or expansion ie, leg affects movement, arms aiming etc... Somebody whos been wounded wouldnt be able to aim as well, In events og high blood loss its hard to even think straight let alone operate a machine gun..... The bf series is more of an arcade style of play so all the complications would be off-putting to a majority...

Maybe expand the unlocks in another version in levels of weapons training, Ie if somebody picked up an ak47 for the first time and had to use it in combat their level of accuracy would be a lot lower and somebody who has used one on multiple occasions, however with fps games being setup as pick up and play type it wudnt be effective... Although It did work well in Deus Ex.....

Things like weapons jamming, overheating(which this has) are implemented although some people would kick up a storm if they got shot be somebody because their gun crapped out on them...

You said it yourself, BF is arcade-like in that aspect, and being crippled and partly defenceless half the time would just kill the fun for the majority of players.

No. What you describe here is the RPG style, where it is the skill of your character that decides the outcome, not your personal skills.

It means that even as a newcomer with great skills, you would be chance less against some cellar-dweller who have played this game 20 hours a day since its release, even if he cant hit his own foot.
Not fun, and the reason why I avoid PvP in RPG games. For some reason these people always pick opponents with significantly lower level than themselves :shakehead:

Small arms in 2142 have less cone of fire when scoped compared to BF2 right? Is that why you put sway in? The sway should be random though, not too hard and not too simple.

Not sure, but it will be mega hard to chose your opponent in a camp g server, or any server infact.

Hell, even in CSS, I used to play a RPG mod, and it was bloody hard to find your opponents lower in level than you.

Hence, an RPG element will be cool (like in warhammer dark crusade, your commander gets extra abilities/wargear)

Warhammer is a strategy game, so I don't think it is a good example.
I don't know dark crusade, but generally speaking the armies will be equal at the beginning of the game, even though individual units may vary.

Anyway you conclusion doesn't follow from your arguments:
• Best case: Opponents are of equal level -> No change from today
• Worst case: Opponents are of different level -> Much worse than today

While you have a point about not being able to pick and chose your opponents in BF, the effect would still be to give veteran players a discount-aimbot.

When I play on pub servers I still see a wide spread in rank, but that would end quickly if new players got wasted each time a veteran looked their way.

It would actually make much more sense to introduce a handicap system that gave new players better armour etc., but imagine the whining we would hear if that happens.

The only thing that should level in this game is the person behind the keyboard

I think BF2142 has worked it out pretty decently, if you are not scoped when you open up your bullets will go all over the place, as it would in real life, if not as badly as in rl. When you are scoped you will pretty much hit what you aim at, asuming you are standing still, and thats all it takes. It's pretty freakin realistic as it is right now, the only way to make it more realistic is to introduce some insane sway if they were to let you shoot scoped while running and jumping.. good luck hitting anything, and hope you dont trip and have the baur scope stamped into your skull.

BF2 cone of fire = retardedness. I despise the fact that regardless of how good your aim is, the cof determines who wins the fight, not hand / eye skill. At least 2142 has reduced that level of garbage to a level where I can hit what I aim at.

I prefer recoil all the way.

By "recoil" do you mean like Call of Duty 1? (if you've played it :p)

For example the MP44 will always hit where you aim when ADS, but you have to control its enormous recoil.

Either way I hate the cone of fire too. The best example I can give is the SAW in BF2; I swear those bullets come out at a 45 degree angle after a second or 2 of full auto .

So how big is the cone of fire while scoped in 2142? And does crouching/proning affect the accuracy on the assault rifles? Doesn't make much sense to me, you're looking down the sights anyways.

The idea as I understand is that you are able to hold the weapon more steady while crouching or prone.
Very few weapons are unaffected by this, I think the SMG and shotguns has some special exceptions at least with regard to movement penalty.

It does seem strange if you think of it as literally the gun itself becoming more accurate because you are changing stance, but it makes more sense if you consider it the accuracy of the soldier instead.

That should decrease recoil then, as you can hold the gun steadier. In all stances the scope is exactly the same, he's looking though it the same way in all 3 stances.

I don't quite understand your point about the scope?
It doesn't show anything about your accuracy, but the cross-hairs does, and they will change with your stance.

I don't know why they haven't chosen recoil as the sole mechanism, so this is just some guesses:
1. To easy to control, allowing unrealistic accurate full-auto shooting
2. To much of an advantage to powerful weapons, since the first shot will always be spot on

I think "2" might be close to the truth. If you only have recoil then there is no ill effects before you fire, so people would run and jump all over the place, stop instantly to fire a few rounds while standing and then take off again like the energizer bunny.

I would completely change the pace of the game. Everybody would probably be running around with sniper rifles.

I meant how the front sight, rear sight, and the shooter's head are all perfectly lined up the same no matter what the stance, at least the first shot should be the same in all stances, I guess prone/crouch should have a slighly less deviation than standing for the rest of the shots in full auto, instead of having mad recoil and 100% accuracy to the sights.

Oh, and another thing, the gun shakes too when you fire, not just recoil up, so the deviation while scoped and the difference in the stances makes sense a bit. I have no idea if the shaking actaully changes, but I suppose it makes sense.
