Toronto is GMT -5 hours so 6/8pm your time is 1/3pm UK time.

Actually due to DST in the summer months EST is only GMT -4 (GMT never changes), however the UK moves from GMT to BST so EST is BST -5.

The short and long of it is that NY / Toronto is 5 hours behind the UK so 8pm there is 1am in the UK! And I ain't staying up that late!
