I see where you're coming from on this. I don't personally use it much, but I have in the past. I think, however, that if it were changed to work this way it would be a bit overpowered. Like a previous poster said, someone good with it would have near unlimited stabilization and I think that would make it a bit unbalanced. I'm not too bad at getting headshots without it, but I think if it were this way good snipers(not sure if I include myself in this or not) would be nigh unstoppable.

Though, I wouldn't have a problem if this were implemented, but it would need other changes to counter-balance it. For instance, the bar would have to fill up faster and there would have to be a bigger penalty for filling the bar completely(think LMG/HMG overheat).

Found lately that i don't need it. if you scope and shoot them within 2 sec's sway doesn't come into it.

After playing in Fall of Berlin(again). I would really, really want somekind of thermal scope and wall piercing bullets for Zeller. That way i could kill those god damn glitchers.

        j/k

But i really wish that Zeller would get some love from Dice/EA.

Maybe longer stabilizing time, one more bullet to clip, suppressor(this would be my pick), etc..

LoL yer, the default snipers are soo much better right now. default snipers have more ammo and are less obvious.

I'd agree with the OP - it oughta work more like sprint: you use it as you need it, it recharges when you're not using it and it's always available unless you're completely out. Mr_Grundle's point about LMG/HMG overheat makes sense as well.

To counter the point about near-constant stabilization: that's like saying a guy can have near-constant sprint if he releases the sprint key right before he runs out, then waits for it to recharge just a little bit, then sprints again, then releases, etc. I don't know about anyone else, but that doesn't sound like near-constant sprint to me.

That's a good point, however, you have to take into account the firing speed of the sniper rifles. Because there is a delay between shots, the Gruber working as is being discussed would allow every shot a sniper wanted to take to be stabilized without any penalty to how fast you could shoot. If the sniper rifles were truely semi-auto it would be a bit different.

Good point as well, Grundle - I didn't think of that.

when i see someone, i zoom, hit shift, follow them for maybe half a second then go for the headshot. i do not believe this is possible without the stabilizer, and i therefore assume that this is the purpose of the stabilizer - to make quick kills rather than hovering there like a muppet, risking yourself and your team
I like to prioritize my targets. I don't shoot the first person I see, I shoot the one that is firing on a teammate, or the sniper lining up for a shot. So I am a bit slower, to make sure I don't miss anything.

That's what I meant by it having the same cooldown as normal rifles. Say it takes 3 seconds currently to fully cooldown after 1.5 seconds of stabilization (numbers pulled form the air). With the Zeller, you could stabilize for 3 seconds, but still only cooldown for 3 seconds.

Personally, I only use the stabilizer on the long shots and just adjust for the sway on shorter shots. I also don't shoot at everyone I see, only those that I can OHK. :p Course, I also don't use the Zeller. :p

if u let it tap then people would learn to have a stable site permenantly by tapping so there would be no jolting up and down.

its only ment to be used to stable the sites for long enough to headshot or what not

it needs to recharge to be used again

plus u can do it the manual way and when the scope goes up gently pull the pouse down and then when it goes up push the mouse up.

id rather have the spawm for amps for depence tbh

hmmm, we're talking about it become overpowered here when a spray from the assault rifles takes someone out anyway, and in a fraction of the time it takes to get off two sniper shots. the ONLY advantage to using a snipe rifle is, considering assault ALSO have bloody pk rockets and infinite health... is that they can take someone out without giving ONE player their position in one shot... if they aim very proficiently. i'm not suggesting infinite stabilizing, just that it be implemented as others have said in the same way as sprint currently is. you clearly don't see the use of the gruber if you 'only use it for far off shots', it is the ultimate sniping tool but is currently flawed because you get very limited use from it

The problem here is that the two are one in the same. If it were implemented in the same way as sprint any of the stabilization power you used on your current shot would be returned by the time your next shot is in the chamber. The following sequence of events would be the norm:

                            1. Sniper spots enemy and aims in general direction.
                            2. Sniper brings up the scope.
                            3. Stabilize.
                            4. Aim at head.
                            5. Fire, preferrably making the kill. (Let's say that 30% of stabilizer power is used)
                            6. Un-stabilize
                            7. Wait for next round to be loaded. (Most, if not all of that stablilizer power would already be returned by the end of this step)
                            8. Repeat.

The amount of time it takes to line the head shot up while stabilized should not be all that long, so anytime used stablizing is regained while waiting for the next round. This means that you can fire every shot stabilized with no downside. The stabilizer makes headshots on stationary targets very easy and helps a lot on moving targets as well and it needs to be balanced(as it currently is) to keep snipers from absolutely dominating everyone from long ranges.

Maybe 'overpowered' was the wrong term, but it would become unbalanced. And personally, I think the Gruber's best application is getting off snap shots to the head while on the move, when you come across an enemy and you're on foot. It is excellent for those long distance shots where just a little extra accuracy is needed as well, no doubts there.

ok, i can see what you are getting at, even though i don't think it is unbalanced, given that you are sacrificing a slot that is in NO WAY equal to pk, ids or any of the other uber unlocks.

how about if the stabilizer overheats when it reaches its maximum, in the same way that machine guns do? that way you would not be able to take out an entire squad in quick succession, but you would still be able to pull off at least 2 stable headshots?

given the overpowered nature of so many things in this game, i can't see why everyone is so reluctant to give the sniper ONE small advantage that can be bypassed by so many other means. cmon, snipers dont even get teamwork points while medics are getting 30 kills plus 30 tw points. imba imba imba!

good suggestion. my only concern, as mentioned... would be people exploiting it.

say, spamming "shift" or people who enable macro's coud perhaps give you a continual steady scope.

perhaps if it just recharged faster.... but... i do feel your pain. i've sniped for like 10min. total in this game.... but it was enough to get annoyed at what you're talking about.
