Crashes at load or spawn. Vista

My game crashes right after I click a multi-player server or after I've loaded everything for a single player game and should then spawn.

The error that comes up is "BF2142.exe Has stopped working". From this error I've surmised that there are a bunch of reasons it could be going down.

Patched version:
v1.40 Beta (26 June 2007)

What I have:
Vista
nVidia 7600 gt
AMD 64 3300+
2gb ram
ECS KN1 SLI lite (mobo)

What I've tried so far:
Always run as Admin.
Turn off the user control boxes.
Deleted the cash files.
Played with the video.con files
Tried running in windowed mode, and not.

I haven't re-installed the game yet, but it's close. Any other suggestions?

Im getting that error after patching to 1.25 and also on vista and the same 3d card,difference being i can load a multiplayer game but get the error when trying to single player.Yet if i load a multiplayer map, spawn,leave and then try to play single player it will load ok.
Everything was fine b4 patching and 1.25 was my first patch.
Id appreciate any help/advice
