Fragged - The very definition?

Sorry for the double post, what happened was I went to the second page to make the poll, but then pressed the back button to change the subject and body, then went ahead to the poll page, and for some reason it posted two seperate threads.

Any experienced FPS player will tell you that "fragged" means killed by any means in an FPS. For example, Quake has a voiceover that says "3 FRAGS LEFT" when the person who has the most kills needs only 3 more kills to win the game.

Any experienced player also knows that the root word of "frag" is "fragmentation" as in a grenade.

It was a term that IS and ALWAYS was used to describe grenades, but got distorted. People then started using it for everything.

I could think of an example but I gotta leave.

Indeed, it was first used in Vietnam. "Fragging" meant using a grenade to kill an unpopular / dangerous officer. Fragmentation grenades were used because, unlike a bullet, they couldn't be traced back to the original owner.

I suppose that it could be defined as "team killing", looking at it from our perspective!

BASIL is quite right. That's what it's come to mean now (I use it myself to mean inflicting death by any means). The origins are as stated above, I believe.

'fragged' means killed in an fps. 'gibbed' means exploded into chunky kibbles of flesh... 'owned' means well-beaten, not possessed after being bought with money

That would be a real life definition

Verb form of Frag, which was derived from the Vientam War Era wounding caused by FRAGmentation weaponry (bullets, grenades, and mortar shells included), and is used to denote a kill of an enemy in FPS(First Person Shooter)games.
That would be a slightly more non real life defintion.

I'm not really sure myself, just thought some definitions could contribute.
