    SAAW Lock-on Tone

For some reason, the SAAW lock-on tone only works for like the first 4 seconds of its targetting me when I'm in a gunship. After that, the sound stops, yet the SAAW is still tracking me. Anyone else get this?

not how you say it, but at times when i'm using the saaw, sometimes it will start to make the lock-on noises... and then all of a sudden stop... even though it should be loud and clear and honed in as your visual field was not impeded.

also... man o man... even if you have the clear lock on tone... fire your rockets off and keep the ship in the middle of your screen, frequently they don't lock on and they just crash into the hillside. perhaps though, this is just the pilot switching seats on me. i'm guessing it is.

also, yesterday i locked onto a gunship, fired a salvo... only to see them violently change direction (roughly a 90 degree change vertically and 45 degree change to the left from my prospective) and head up to the titan and strike it. weird.

I'd honestly like to see you stop any decent gunship pilot with a Pilum. They aren't going to hover low for you without their shields. The SAAW has recently become disgusting annoying for me when it's used. It seems to track even after the lock-on tone is gone, seems to follow me far beyond the range that the SAAW is supposed to go (for instance, when I fly 600 meters up into the air), and forces me to stop my killing spree and run until I can track down the SAAW user.

yeah but how many times has it killed you, my argument is that the pilum from an engies point of view is a more versatile weapon - ps Ive taken down many gunships with this weapon, granted they have to be close...I havnt taken down any armor with the saaw;oh and wait a minute no.... gunships either:laugh:

the saaw is pretty damn deadly against most gunship pilots. skilled ones are tough to hit, they don't stay in the area long enough, or they fly low enough where a lock can't be maintained.

i equip the saaw 80% of the time i'm a engi.

            edit: "saaw-awww it missed again"

            freaking hilarious

Ive only used this weapon a few times to be fair and never hit anything with it ;maybe its better now? Ill still stick with the pilum though - so my original point is true the pilum is versatile ; how many tanks have you killed with your saaw? I luv stalking tanks/apcs so that is my forte hombre;I might practice with the saaw when I get a bit bored with the old cannon, sorry about the saaw -aaww comment - bit too cocky for my own good sometimes...

I agree that the Pilum is a better choice. Of course, it can't replace the SAAW if you are serious about taking out the enemy air (which you'd only be serious about if they were any good, in which case, your Pilum would not be very effective against them). That's all I'm saying.

Maybe is because they are not looking at you after shooting or not using the lock-on view before (yeah, BEFORE) shooting.

Dice said that you must keep locking/viewing the target or it will lose track but today I killed a gunship after turning away to hide behind a building....7 secs later I saw 2 kills from my SAAW shots.

                  The reason might be related.

I considered this, too. But the SAAW seems to follow me all the way across the map without the lock-on tone, even when I hide behind a hill (although usually, it's quite a low hill). I only ever seem to escape the SAAW if I fly really high up or watch it with my rear-view and slip the shields as soon as they are about to hit. On the other hand, sometimes they travel so slowly that if I'm flying forward, I actually have to stop to let it catch up to me before my shield runs out. The weird thing is it only started happening recently. I used to use the same low-hill tactics or even near-flat terrain, and the SAAW would crash into the ground everytime I did a semi-dive. No longer seems to work. =\
