both of those walking robots are smaller then humans. while the ability to walk is definitly a key requirement of the "mechworrier", being able to carry a pilot is also crucial. of cource none of these robots are even close to a battlewalker, wanna know why? the battlewalker is the most retarded idea ever. the profile of an upright armor is so much bigger then that of a tank, that they have no logical military application. for more info on this id like to refer you to this formula below.

      gunship > tank > battlewalker

The point is that they actually walk and will still walk if made bigger and given a cockpit and weapons. This being in contrast with the japanese shufflebot.

Obviously no one here has seen Star Wars.

          AT-ST and AT-AT anyone?!

We need to invent laser swords ASAP too.

On the contrary, the idea of a battlewalker is sound, if ahead of our time, but its use would be more as a frontline spotting tool or reconnaissance device if applied to the real world, moreso than a true infantry killer. As the description for the walker accurately points out, its strength is its height, versatility, speed and visibility. While a bipedal design is vulnerable by its very nature, a higher profile over infantry and other armored vehicles means increased range of motion, longer sight range, and the ability to overcome various forms of physical cover which are a staple of infantry combat. In addition, it would likely be able to traverse terrain in the real world better than a horizontally profiled vehicle and outpace infantry for more rapid and efficient recon duties.

Unless they manage to incorporate the agility of living creatures into a mechanical walker, I doubt they're going to be any more useful than what we already have.

you gotta be ****ing kidding me. ok, so you must be talking about the chicken walker, not the mechworrier. you also must be imagining a slimming more efficient profile with quicker moving mechanics. even still, the best type of recon is drone, specifically the helidrone, and this chicken walker, still air recon is far superior.

height/visability = this means it can be seen aswell. speed = do you think its really gonna go any faster than a tank? ok, so it can get over physical cover like walls and such, so can tanks, they go right through

you are ridiculous, and the idea of a bipedal military vehicle is also ridiculous. go ahead and stock your army with bipeds, yer just gonna lose. basically my whole argument against bipedal recon is that drones and air can do it better, much much better.

now, heres the application i can see bipedal or "powersuits" being used militarily. a suit of arms with full range of motion for the human body. powered mechanics. about 8 - 10 feet tall. able to carry much hevier payloads than a normal human. much more stable firing platform. with jump jets to get right smack in the middle of the enemy. able to push a tank over and what not.

                  exactly.

gundams, mechworrier, big O (:P) none of this stuff would work, with that high a profile they would be destroyed in seconds. just like the bigger battleship will fall to smaller faster well armed ones, the gundam will surly fall quickly to gunships and tanks.

I said it would be a reconnaissance tool - not THE superior reconnaissance tool of the future era.

height/visability = this means it can be seen aswell.
                    Valid point.

speed = do you think its really gonna go any faster than a tank? ok, so it can get over physical cover like walls and such, so can tanks, they go right through
The "walker"'s speed would be a function of the length of its legs, and by extension the length of its stride. Imagine an ostrich and a chicken walking beside one another - the speed gain by leg length that the ostrich has over the chicken is relatively similar to the proportional gain the unit would have over any other land-based vehicle. In addition, soundly constructed physical cover can repulse tank advances, though such cover is often prohibitive for other reasons.

you are ridiculous, and the idea of a bipedal military vehicle is also ridiculous. basically my whole argument against bipedal recon is that drones and air can do it better, much much better.
And here is the problem - you're attacking a statement of mine that I never made and just looking for a silly fight. Your "argument against bipedal recon" is one I never disagreed with. Your resort to calling me "ridiculous" is evidence enough. I never said that the walker would be a superior tool on the battlefield or that it would be more effective at its duties than drone units. The minimization of life risked would likely be more than enough to make up for it, from a military strategy standpoint.

go ahead and stock your army with bipeds, yer just gonna lose.
I'm going to lose? I was unaware that our armies were scheduled to fight, or that I had been placed in any position of significance in command of a military force. Do you have an army? Perhaps I should have been raising one while you were talking...

now, heres the application i can see bipedal or "powersuits" being used militarily. a suit of arms with full range of motion for the human body. powered mechanics. about 8 - 10 feet tall. able to carry much hevier payloads than a normal human. much more stable firing platform. with jump jets to get right smack in the middle of the enemy. able to push a tank over and what not.
And you're calling *my* position unfeasible? Push a tank over? Shall we summon Superman to assist our forces as well? I have heard unconfirmed rumors that he can leap tall buildings in a single bound.
