if you get taken by the dropship crew tactic more than once, you are a bad gunship pilot. these guys say that gunships cant touch them. thus, i can safley say they were fighting bad gunship pilots, see how that works? a good pilot wouldnt give them the oppertunity to shoot back.Comment

Yea but just remember a gunship needs to hit a full healthed Transport with all 10 rockets to kill it, then when there is 2 engie's repairing it that just wont happen, you may be able to do a lot of damage but you would need some added fire power from somewhere (a gunner using TV bombs) Plus they do take SAAW's with them as well, overall they are tough cookies to crack but it can be done.Comment

The TV missile is a definite must. However, considering the TV missile can take the transport down to burning, two or three gunship missiles would finish the job. It's easy to avoid the SAAW if you're coming from above because you can constantly switch sides of the transport so they can never get a good lock on you (plus it's so hard to shoot straight up with the transport). It's all down to timing, which I expect Aargh and his crew have down to a dime. I can see how they might respond to different kinds of tactics:Yea but just remember a gunship needs to hit a full healthed Transport with all 10 rockets to kill it, then when there is 2 engie's repairing it that just wont happen, you may be able to do a lot of damage but you would need some added fire power from somewhere (a gunner using TV bombs) Plus they do take SAAW's with them as well, overall they are tough cookies to crack but it can be done.
1) Shoot the TV missile and simultaneously fire off your rockets. -- I imagine the pilot is using third person view and will be able to time the shields perfectly to stop these shots based on video confirmation instead of audio confirmation (as otherwise, it's a guaranteed kill).
2) Use a SAAW on the ground to make them launch the shields -- Well, considering a SAAW only takes them down to 33 health, I doubt they'd launch the shields because of it.
3) Use the machine gun on the gunship to weaken, then fire off the missiles. Then after their shields are used up, fire the TV missile and follow up with more machine gun -- At that point, it'll depend on the rate of repair vs the damage (which put together, I think is way more than three engineers can compensate for).
Ultimately, all of these tactics go down to timing, and with one or two SAAW users on the ground, I can't imagine a transport being very successful in stopping the attacks. Alternatively, you could lob a TV missile from a mile away and take out the exposed infantry on the side of a transport. From there, the attack vectors become substantially in your favor for the next 15 seconds. At the very least, you'll keep the transport from racking up the kills / points. Basically, the transport is a 6-7 man team so even if it took 2 SAAWs and a gunship with pilot and gunner, the match up is still quite "fair."
Btw, question for you transporters. Does the engineer repair tool ever max out (overheat) when in the transport? I remember once, I could keep repairing. However, another time someone was telling me how their repair tool ran out. I never did get a definitive answer.Comment

No in my experience.
I believe OP is just over hyping the power of the transport crew Vs a good gunship pilot. The transport is truly a serious death machine with a good crew but not so effective if it is being constantly attacked with multiple SAAW users and/or by a good gunship pilot.
There are some ways to kill transport no matter if it has 2 repairing engineers and a very good evasive pilot with good shield timing.
Keep in mind that engineers has a very little delay to start repairing and both combined will repair like 10-15 shield points per second. I could take it down soloing with gunship TVGM from a high rear then insta-follow with rockets before impact without giving the repair tools a chance to even start. TVGM splash damage might even kill some of the crew on the impact.
Same scenario with a good gunner but the gunner can switch to gun to mow down before TVGM impact while pilot's rockets are on the way, resulting in a faster massacre.
Too bad that the servers where that crew hangs pings 180+ for me or I would give a shot.Comment

In my experience the advanced repair tool has never run out on me while repairing a transport on the fly and I've brought it back from very low health.Comment

yea same here, when in a transport it doesnt seem to overheat, unless this is a bug or something because they do overheat when repairing the titan guns.Comment
-
Thats not a biased opinion there at all :p
Can you imagine what will happen though if it is a bug and Dice change is to overheat, that would severely kill the power of the transport of doom. I love just sitting in there holding my repair button whilst i rack up the kill assists from Argh

this is just like blackhawk used to be in bf2. ya i hope dice fixes it. im not saying the dropship crew tactic shouldnt work, im just saying it shouldnt work without gunship support. just my 2 cents.Comment

Every single word in this post is a reflection of what I feel. Even the 180+ ping stuff. =PNo in my experience.

Another tactic you could use:
If you get the jump on the transport have your gunner, unload his chaingun into the side of the transport, am usre he would be able to wipe out the gunners/engineers
You have then earned yourself a little more time to wipe it out

but your forgetting one very important fact, the transport guns can take you down faster than you can take us down. The transport guns rip through gunships like toilet paper and as we do have our people repairing and you have to hit EVERY single rocket its not as easy a task as you claim. Argh has taken down more gunships than he has probably infantry.
I have played with the no. #2 gunship pilot in the world and he was only able to take them down once in 2 rounds. Its not easy.Comment
