You can unlock them by going to the main menu and then BFHQ - Unlocks. Click on recon. You'll need an unlock though which you can get from ranking up your soldier, all that takes is points from a ranked online server.

you may have to get more points to get the required number of unlocks before you can get the RDX i cant remeber offhand how many you unlocks you need before you can get the RDX

ok, so I have to earn them through multiplayer or can I earn them in singleplayer?

no all unlocks must be earned in multiplayer mode, single player is just really for practice

Also, if you're planning on focusing on sniper work for a while, you'll probably find the APMs more useful than the RDX initially... (if you don't have them unlocked already). It's some measure of protection for your backside while you're focusing through your scope.

If you've just started playing, the ranks and unlocks will come really fast to begin with, so you can have both relatively quickly.

The whole upgrade process is one of the most intriguing parts of BF2142, so I recommend going through all the unlocks on the unlocks page and getting an idea of what does. Since you won't be able to get them all particularly quickly, it's best to get a rough idea of what you might want to use.

Bear in mind that unlocks must be unlocked in succession. So before you can get the Recon's active camo, you must get the Recon's RDX below it.

Also, if you play in a squad you will very often get field upgrades (almost always, in fact) which let you use the next available unlock for any class until you disconnect from the server. You can get quite a few of these per game so it's a great way to test out stuff you're unsure about unlocking.

Erm, not JUST Multiplayer, (Dont go to a LAN expecting to be able to get points), Multiplayer on an Official RANKED server. Ranked means you get a point for kill, kills give pins, lots of kills giving medals, ribbons etc.

*ANYBODY* can download the server code and set up a 2142 slaughterhouse for a Lanparty, but it will be what is known as "Unranked", kills do not earn points.

Ranked servers, are servers that have been purchased through an official EA Partner. (In Australia, that is Bigpond Gamearena, and INTERNODE).

You can purchase Ranked, or Non Ranked, and of course, you pay more money for a RANKED server.

The RDX demopak is the first unlock you can get from the Special Ops tree which is the right tree
