    Vista and BF2142 help

Ok, I have Vista Ultimate on one partition and XP on another. I choose Vista at startup. When Vista loads I try to play BF2142. BF is located on my F drive. Vista is on the E drive, XP on the C drive.

There's an error saying dx......(?) hasn't been found. Do I have to install BF2142 on Vista, even though it's installed on XP?

Yes you do because (correct me if im wrong) the file path and the registry locations wont be there.

Correct although if you install it again in Vista to the same location - you may be able to play on both Op systems from the same install.

I wouldnt recomend that, unless you are willing to install the patch on both of your OS. The game files may get updated, however the registry entries would be different so would require you to install the patch on both OS.

In short you are just as well to install the game on both OS, saves things getting borked

In my limited experience with the OS, I have developed a simple rule.

              "Do not provoke Windows Vista."

Install it on both OSs and get the hell out of there :p

                Hi
Not sure if this will help , but its what I used to do with dual boot systems and BF:V/BF1942 .
                Boot up Vista.
Go to the folder BF2142 is currently in e.g: F:\program files\battlefield2142 , and rename the it to something like F:\program files\battlefield2142_old
.Now pop your dvd in the drive and do an install of BF2142 in vista to F:\program files\battlefield2142 .
When it finishes , dont worry about patching etc, you're only doing this so that vista will know where BF2142 is installed , and so it'll add the right registry entries etc .
Now you should have two battlefield2142 folders under program files one called battlefield2142_old and the other called battlefield2142.
Rename battlefield2142 to battlefield2142_backup and rename battelfield2142_old back to battlefield2142.
What you've done is change the name of the fully patched games folder long enough to do a "vanilla" install , then change it back afterwards.
You can delete the "battlefield2142_backup" folder if you wish now to save space.

The only problem you may have playing under vista is that you may need to download and run pbsvc.exe (punkbuster)from evenbalance.com , if you find you're getting punkbuster issues as this will install them as services in Vista.
Also make sure you run battlefield2142 as an administrator in vista (again, for punkbuster) you can do this by rightclicking the bf2142 icon and selecting ->compatibility-> run as administrator.
                hope this helps
oh yeah , first post ...hello btw!
