    EA CEO calls videogames boring

    this is the link

Apparently even the CEO is upset about the company's lacking performance. Think this will mean better games in the future?

No. He's saying that he wants to see games be dumbed down.

He is either such an extremely simple person or hasn't even played games to say games are becoming harder to play.

True enough that games are generally more complicated than the days when all you had were ABC and the D-pad but they are not any harder. Playing some of the roms of old Mega drive and NES games, I find most to be quite the bit trickier to play than today's games.

EDIT: He has a lot of nerve to say the industry has been rinse and repeat when EA has been doing exactly that for over a decade now.

        Exactly *cough* Battlefield 2142 *cough*

I find more challenging games much more fun. What is the fun of being able to complete a game without any effort whatsoever. It's just not fun at all.

I agree, I think he wants to capture the "casual" gamer market that use to play Solatair or Pinball on Windows...:)

Also with the lack of innovateness (excuse the sp) in the EA line, well what does he want.

He has a division (DICE) that doesn't support the MOD/MAP community anymore and EA has forgotten that. Or maybe DICE has been told not to by the EA division that controls the FPS genre. This community is what has kept these games alive and actually has created other games trying to imitate or duplicate what the MODS do.

Last point - didn't EA just reorganize their divisions into 4 distinct divisions depending on genre and popularity?

I fear the video game industry is going to become stagnant with a bunch of Wii-quality games (ie. simple, arcade, stupid, cheap to make and sell for profit).

            =\

Yep afriad there is an alarming trend to dumb games down. MMORPGs are dumbed down severly (see WoW). I want a challenge! I Want complex games!

supposedly this is a new ceo for ea. they canned the old one for re-making the same game over and over and over.

this new one supposedly it going to shake things up a bit and try to bring new things to the table.

of course, i'm just a random idiot on the internet so what i say could totally be false =)

                    Ah.... Complex Game.....

Remember how once flourished flight sims, including space-shooters, almost reached extinction?

I know there are hardcore FSers who can recite all F-16C radar modes in Falcon 4.0, but there aren't many of them. When complex games are getting costlier to develop, they are also losing gamers due to increased complexity and frustration.

I believe that as the gaming community getting more and more hardcore, there will be tools that allow hardest-core gamers to develop their own games and distribute their creations. It would be just like modding, but with more freedom and possibility.

There is a big aftermarket of car-modification, garage choppers and anything else. I just don't see why there couldn't be such a thing in gaming industry.
