I’m running into the same issue. I’ve found that after I die (which is inevitable due to stuttering) once I respawn the problem has corrected itself for that round...usually.

The stuttering just started for me out of no where after months of play with no issues.

What I’ve done to try and fix it...
                            -defrag all drives
                            -cleared cache
                            -maxed out my page file
-installed RAM optimizer program (made a huge difference) as well as some performance monitoring software.
-I lowered my video settings to the lowest possible (still the stuttering occurred so I don't think this is performance issue)
                            -ran anti virus, spyware
-stopped all unnecessary programs from launching at startup
-used all of the tweak guides located in the sticky in the BF2142 general discussion forum.

After all of this I’m proud to say that my computer has never run better.

                            AMD +3400 (2.4 GHz)
                            Radeon X850 256
                            Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum
                            1 gig RAM

Before all this work BF2142 ran great on medium settings. When I would set the game to High settings it was unplayable. Now it runs on Maxed out settings beautifully which I think is pretty impressive considering that my machine is very middle of the road if that. I didn't know that game looked so good on high settings. However, the stuttering persists. It doesn't happen all the time. Maybe once an hour or so. As I've experienced the stuttering during the highest and the lowest settings, and the game ran wonderfully on medium for the last year, I’m left pretty confused.

I guess all I’ve got left is a clean install.

lol @ all the replies in here.

Its nothing to do with a crappy system, cache files, defraging, virus' or anything else like that.

Its a pure and simple PB issue.

                              How do i know?

Because i had the same thing happen to me... i got fed up with it and ALT+F4'ed back to desktop where there was a dialogue box from my firewall asking if i'd allow internet access for pnkbstrb.exe. (a punkbuster file)

I allowed it and that stopped the stuttering.
