Actually instead of the whole Baur=defense:Voss=offense idea... let's take a look at the unlock trees...

Baur: Pure killing power unlocks. Shotgun, NetBat upgrade (identify who to kill first), rockets, gun filled with stopping power, more ammo for the shotgun/rockets.

Voss: Purely offensive "support" unlocks. Defib to revive dead teammates, healing hub upgrade for extra healing, smoke grenade, the Voss, advanced smoke grenade.

Now let's take a look. The Voss is based around a medic role, yes? A medic is not supposed to be a deadly force on the battlefield; they're not supposed to be great shots. Ergo, the Voss is designed as a quick and easy gun to clear out infantry near your teammates so you can revive/heal them. These teammates will be using the Baur because they are marksmen and can take out another infantry with 2-3 well placed shots with ease.

Another point of view is that a medics job is to stay alive, so he should hang a bit back and support his friends with his markmanship until his help is needed.
And for self-defence in CQB he gets a shotgun that can kill in one shot (theoretically )

        True 'nuff :p

It's generally considered bad poise to shoot a medic anyways :p

...instead of the whole Baur=defense:Voss=offense idea...
Wow, I opened a can of worms with that statement.

Okay, what I really wanted to get across is that the weapon comparison tool shows that Baur users should use strafing movements to the left and right for the most accurate shots. The Voss users shouldn't strafe, but keep moving forward or backward because of their favorable deviation penalty.

The defense/offense is only my interpretive opinion and should be taken lightly. :salute:

Interesting i'll have to try this out. Is it that much of a difference if you strafe with the voss? Is this aimed fire (zoomed)? or unzoomed spray?

You know, it's not terrible to strafe with the Voss, but you do incur a deviation penalty for doing so. No penalty for the Baur. The figures in the weapon compare tool relate to each single shot and the penalty for the next shot taken. So, if you burst fire you have to add each additional penalty. This is why the Baur does so poorly when used with uncontrolled bursts... the deviation penalties add up quickly. The third shot will most likely miss your target and it get's much worse from there.

Wasn't using you in particular, just seemed like a good way to sum up a lot of the arguments posted so far. Really the usage of each weapon depends on the player and the environment; each gun lends itself to specific environments/situations better. Sure, the Voss is somewhat more noob-friendly (not a flame!). It takes slightly less concentration to control, which can be a very good thing as you don't tunnel vision onto your current target as much :)

I think the Voss users should use the Voss in any situation, while the Baur users should be disappointed in almost any situation.

My last couple of games I've been top 3 with it but I'm usually low in kills and only about mid range for points. Have these been flukes? or is the baur really a shunned weapon?

the baur is imho one of the best rifles in the game it CAN kill slose range at mid to long range use single shot AND aim for the head close range rely on the recoil

its mainly moaned at because people that use it now got bored of the spray n pray voss that all u need to do is click and hold, the baur takes time to learn how to cope with the recoil and adjust to the 20 clip mags :salute:
