  • possibly the weirdest problem ever

i used to have a radeon 9800pro and no problems in counter stirke 1.6. that card went out so i upgraded to an x1650, now when i start cs and join a server i run a little bit faster than everybody and every 10 seconds or so the game acts like i've lagged out for about 1-2 seconds and then stops untill it does it again in 10-15 seconds.

the weird part is changing my resolution (doesn't matter to what) fixes this problem. problem solved, why am i posting this? i play on 640x480 so when i start cs i just change it to widescreen, then back to normal and the problem is solved. but anybody who's changed their resolution in cs knows that it often likes to crash and when you open it back up the settings are saved.

can anybody think of what i can do to get cs to open normally without having to change my resolution?

    quick scenario

open cs (settings 640x480 i get the lag problem)
change to widescreen (settings 1280x720 problem fixed)
change to normal (settings 640x4880 problem fixed)

that's how i normally open cs and fix the problem. that's optimal if cs doesn't crash in the middle of any of the res changes causing me to start over. (often)

sorry i'm redundant, but can anybody think of what's cuasing this?
latest gcard drivers and vsync is off.

    Hmm very weird.
Have you tried changing from d3d to opengl or vice-versa?
Try adding -w 640 to launch options.
