    Annoying Counter Strike Problem !!!

so after i reformat my laptop, i installed counter strike 1.6 and decided to play. cs ran very smoothly and well but after about 10 or 15 min of playing, cs suddenly started to lag like crazy. the lag is constant, not getting better nor worse. before the reformat, i've been able to play the game without any problems. please help.

    laptop info:
    1.60GHz
    221MHz1.00GB of RAM

    thanks in advance...

net graph shows me that the game's running at 100 fps and ms is 52 but after that 10/15 min, fps drops dramatically down to around 10 and ms doubles/triples. video driver is ATI/Radeon. please help !

      Well something changed.
Some driver or maybe a hardware malfunction. Can you find out if your cpu and/or gpu is heating up?

        i don't think anything's heating up...
my fps just drops to 10 out of nowhere and i've tried developer 1 + fps_max 101 (along with rate 25000, cl_cmdrate 101, cl_updaterate 101) command, but still the problem remains... btw the laptop uses ATI/Radeon

Well, are you using the exact same drivers as you were before?
As in, graphics and motherboard drivers.

yes; all i did was reformat and the first thing i downloaded was the update packs for the video drivers (Radeon 9000)
my resolution for the laptop is 1024 x 768 which is the same resolution i use for the game in medium quality. I tried using 800 x 600 and it actually doesn't have problems. but the graphics are somewhat fuzzy... 1024 x 768 seems so much better

Well, try using the drivers the PC originally came with.
Or were you previously using the drivers you downloaded this time?

                  Dunno. That's quite old.
I'd try searching for other drivers. Maybe the omega drivers? Haven't used that in years.

I'm pretty sure the 9000 is not supported with newer Catalyst drivers. Try the graphics drivers from the manufacturers website - they'll be old but a good reference. It'd be worth checking your processes list in Windows when the fps drops, to see what .exe is taking up the cycles if not CS itself.

                      svchost.exe takes up the most
i close everything when i play now but i still get that fps drop
for a little while, when i played it on 800x600, it was fine, but now, even that drops fps to about 10 after the 10-15 min time period...

If it doesn't take up much, that's not it.
I'm positive it's something to do with your graphics card.

But you can try a virus scan along with running a program like spybot to cleanse your pc of adware and the sort.

                          no viruses/spyware/adware,etc.
i downloaded the driver from [link="http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd&fileid=107801& SystemID=LAT_PNT_PM_D600&category=0&os=WW1&osl=en& deviceid=3083&devlib=6&releaseid=R82040"]http://support.dell.com/support/downloa...easeid=R82040[/link] and when i try to download the catalyst from the ATI site, it responds with Setup failed to run installation: The remote procedure call failed.
                          this is unbelievable....
