I just got a new computer and installed Steam + Counter Strike 1.6. When I launch it, it works then when i join any game or create "new game" it freezes while loading it ( the screen where it says loading stuff with the bars and things like precaching resources or parsing game info and stuff)it might even make it into the game, but once connected all i see is that first intro window that pops up and freezes from there (furthest point iv'e reached into cs on this computer) On my laptop on the other hand, it works perfectly

My specs are
OS:Windows Vista Home Premium
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
3.00GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8300 GS

Is CS fully installed before you launch it (so at 100%)? Do you have to reset your PC when it freezes, or can you get out of CS back to Windows?

is your video card forceing world two textures i dont think vista supports it..( i may be way off)try my config on fps optimizing) its like a shot of penicillin with alot of cs issues, and if its cs 1.6 i believe alot of the commands are the same
