    FPS in 1.6 ?

    hi,
    when i play cs on an LCD display on openGL
    the max fps is 59;
    but when i play on D3D the fps can be even 99;
    so...
    1)when playing on D3D (on LCD) all these 99 fps, are they real?
    and the monitor only handles 60 fps, so playing with higher fps
    will it damage the monitor or what?

    2)is there a command in 1.6 for vsynch on/off?

    3)so LCD monitors are worse (for fps games) than
    CRT since CRTs have like 85-100 hrz?

    The 99 fps isn't real.
    The game fps is ALWAYS limited to your max refresh rate.

    There is no command in 1.6 to turn on vsync. You can do this in your desktop properties.

    Yeah, higher refresh rates mean higher fps, so CRTs are usually better, but some TFTs and LCDs have already gotten up to 120Hz.
    The actual factor when it comes to monitor/gaming, is your screen response time. 1 milisecond is great. 10 is not.

      thx,
      about response time, its always different when i play->
      i use net_graph 1 it says sometimes 40 or 60 ms.
      usually its 20, like fps.

      is the difference between 1 and 10ms visible?
      tell me more pls about ms.

        The response time I was talking about has nothing to do with your connection. It's about your monitor.
        For instance, my laptop has a 8ms response time, which means, there's a 8 ms delay between the processment of a frame and when it's actually rendered.
        Now, there's this thing called reaction time (read more about it [link="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reflex_time"]here[/link]). Most players when fully concentrated on their game can have about 40 to 50 ms reaction time. Adding up the monitor response time, in my case, will increase reaction time by about 10 ms, which is about 25 to 20 % of the reaction time.
        In tight situations, or fighting around corners, I have a disadvantage over another equally skilled player on a lower response time monitor.

        On the other hand, the average gamer, or just any gamer not fully concentrated will have about 150 to 200 ms reaction time, and in this case the response time is negligible.
        And newbies can go over to 400 ms reaction time...

          Are you sure about those reaction times? An athlete waiting for the gun for 100m sprint generally has a reaction time around 100ms, a non athlete doing the same around 150ms. If gamers are that quick, they should run (and obviously lose, as they're fat, pasty and unfit)!

            That's because adolescents have better reaction time than grown ups, especially when it comes to visual stimulation. And visual stimulation has always (unless you're blind) better reaction time.
            Some tests have shown that some kids can get 30 ms (visual) reaction time. Atheletes usually have around 100 ms (audio reaction time) and they usually time their start, and so, there are many false starts at top competition.

            I worded things a bit wrong, what I meant is that the very good gamers can have about 40 to 50 ms reaction time, while the average gamer should be around 100 to 200 ms.
            I remember a year ago or so, I think it was the swedish teams (SK and fnatic) that complained at some competition that the response time on the TFT monitors was too high, so, it does make a difference. It just doesn't apply to the majority.
