Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can my system run Battlefield 3?
A: The system requirements for PC are posted above. Its a safe bet that if your system ran Bad Company 2 on high, it can run Battlefield 3 on medium.
Q: Will Battlefield 3 support hyperthreading or multi-core CPUs?
A: Yes.
Q: Is there prone in Battlefield 3?
A: There is jumping, crouching, running, walking, strafing, and prone.
Q: Wont this make bunny hopping bad?
A: DICE has implented a few features to help prevent that.
Q: Is there also lean in Battlefield 3?
A: No.
Q: Is there a sniper class?
A: There is the recon class that has the sniper rifles.
Q: Are the sniper rifles overpowered?
A: No. DICE has modified them to be at least a two hit kill, unless in the head.
Q. Are claymores back?
A: Yes. They have also been adjusted so that players can "sneak" by them and engineers can disable them.
Q: What about this new supression system?
A: DICE implemented a new system that causes a bluring effect when a bullet comes close to you. All primary weapons can do this, but it makes the LMGs and covering fire a better option. You also get points for causing the effect.
Q: Is there a spotting/commo rose system?
A: Yes. There is now a hybrid spotting system with a type of commo rose feature. There is still quick spotting with some type of option to issue statements.
Q: Will the quick spotting be like a wall-hack as it was in Bad Company 2?
A: No. DICE has made changes to the hybrid system to not work that way any longer.
Q: Are there jets?
A: Yes. To even go further they have a 1000m ceiling and can be equiped as other vehicles for certain situations, such as dog fighting or anti-tank attacks.
Q: Will they be overpowered?
A: There are a number of AA vehicles as well as infantry carrying weapons that will take down jets. If they work correctly, it should balance well.
Q. Is there a "free look" for the cockpit?
A. Yes, as well as a chase-cam.
Q: Are there other vehicles?
A: This wouldnt be battlefield if there was not. There are a number of different types of vehicles that you can see here.
Q: Is there a single player and how long is it?
A: Yes there is. The estimated time for single player is just over 6 hours.
Q: Is there a co-op mode?
A: Yes there is. It has been mentioned to be 2 player with 6 levels.
Q: What are the co-op maps?
A: They are; Operation Exodus, Fire from the sky, Exfiltration, Hit & Run, Drop Em' Like Liquid, and 11th Hour
Q: What is the difference between console versions and PC versions?
A: Map size has been reduced along with player count at 24 for the multi-player side of the game for consoles. The console versions have an in-game browser while the PC versions will be using Battlelog, an out-of-game browser. Consoles will run at 720p and 30FPS. Other then that, DICE has stated it is to be the same.
Q: Will the consoles have jets?
A: Yes, they will have all the vehicles the PC has.
Q: How do I pre-order the Limited Edition?
A: See this FAQ
Q: Will there be DLC, other than Back to Karkand, in the future?
A: Yes. DICE has stated that they plan to offer up to three times more DLC than Bad Company 2 had.
Q: Are kits faction sided? I mean, do Russians have Russian weapons and Americans theirs?
A: Yes, to a point. The kits are very customizable and though each side starts with a default kit that matches their army, many other weapons can be switched out as well as other kits picked up.
Q: What game modes are there?
A: Conquest, Rush, Squad Rush, Squad Death Match, and Team Death Match.
Q: How many maps will Battlefield 3 have?
A: On release, there will be 9 maps, not counting the Back to Karkand Expansion which has an additional 4.
Q: What are the 9 maps called?
A: Operation Métro, Grand Bazaar, Tehran Highway, Caspian Border, Noshahr Canals, Operation Firestorm, Seine Crossing, Kharg Island, and Damavand Peak

A: Karkand, Gulf of Oman, Wake Island, and Sharqi Peninsula.
Q: Will there be a kill-cam?
A: Yes, DICE has stated there will be.
Q: Can it be turned off?
A: No information on server settings have been given.
Q: Will there be a hardcore mode?
A: Yes, though it has not been stated what can be adjusted in it.
Q: I dont like vehicles all the time, can those be disabled?
A: Yes. DICE has mentioned that Battlefield 3 will have an Infantry Only mode.
Q: What anti-cheat system does Battlefield 3 have?
A: It will use an updated Punkbuster.
Q: Are there going to be server files released?
A: No.
Q: Will there be any R-Con tools then?
A: Yes, DICE is actually making some tools.
Q: Will there be Ranked and Un-Ranked servers?
A: Yes.
Q: Will there be an auto balance system?
A: Yes, like Bad Company 2's system. Hopefully it will work.
Q: Is there a ranking system.
A: Yes and it is huge. Battlelog will help bring that all together.
Q: How long will it take to rank up?
A: No mention has been given on the rank time.
Q: Are there awards, ribbons, trophies, and all that?
A: Yes, there are a lot of different ways to earn points to rank up.
Q: How destructable are the environments?
A: DICE has toned down the destruction a little bit, but there is still a lot and they have also made it where destruction can harm a person if it falls on them.
Q: What about this vehicle regen health thing?
A: Vehicles can regenerate health if not in the battle for a period of time. The vehicle cannot regenerate to 100% without the help of an engineer and is a slow process on top of that. The regeneration level is low enough that engineer is still a very wanted person.
Q: What about health regen, is the medic done for?
A: No. Health regeneration is also a slow process and does not happen right away. Also, with the medic being an assault class, they will be needed for other things.
Q: How does the revive process work?
A: Once "dead" and a medic revives you, you are given a side-arm for cover and then have to accept the revive. If you accept the revive, then the death does not count and you are then given your full kit back. If you deny the revive, you die. If you are revived and are immediatly killed, you stay dead and cannot be revived again.
Q: Will there be squads and commander positions in Battlefield 3?
A: Yes and no, there will be four man squads with a squad leader and there will not be a commander position.
Q: Why is there no commander in Battlefield 3?
A: DICE felt that it is no longer a needed position and has also mentioned that the commander abilities will be seen elsewhere in the game.
Q: Are there dogtags in Battlefield 3 and is knifing easy like in Bad Company 2?
A: Yes, there are still dog tags but it is not as easy to get them. DICE has implemented a system where you have to not only select the knife, but also sneak up on the person from the side or back to get the dog tags. On top of that, if you are discovered, the knife will not be a one hit kill.
Q: Selecting the knife takes a long time, isn't there a faster way?
A: Yes, there is a quick knife option, but you will not get any dogtags that way.
Q: When I can I download the game?
A: Amazon and Origin both have pre-load dates of October 21st. Other vendors may follow that date, but you will have to check with them. Othwise, downloads can start on the 25th or 27th depending on your region.
Q: How can I help update this FAQ or tell someone that something is incorrect?
A: Post a reply below. We will get confirmed and straightened out.
