You're right I have never used Steam. Never needed or wanted it. Thing is I have never needed it to play any game I have owned. My last purchase was Crysis 2 which was available on Steam but I had a hard copy so Steam wasn't forced on me. Now my understanding is that despite having a hard copy of BF3 I will need to have Origin open and running on my system ( I could be wrong here, this is why I'm trying to get info). See this all seems like EA demanding the right to force adverts onto my PC.
And yeah I take your point about 2142. When the billboards thing was first mentioned people didn't like the idea but actually I grew to quite like the concept. The ads were usually designed to fit into the world of the game and were un-obtrusive. I once replaced all the ads on a mates PC to feature promotions for my own soldier. Stuff like "TrooperJac - too pretty to die" with a picture of my soldier. These were on the huge 20ft billboards dotted around the game and he never noticed. This went on for days with me watching him, in the end I had to point the fkin things out to him!
