WSOD! White Screen of Death!

Hello all BF fans,

i recently installed BFBC2 on my computer as it is a new comp and i had a white screen of death, all audio no video. I scoured the web for answers and all i got was the rename exe. file fix, i did that, i got a few battles then blam crash i have to task manager then kill it from their. so for now this temp fix is working only for a few battles to which then i would have to restart the game i had BFBC2 installed on my other system (a year ago) and worked flawlessly.

My current setup excluding the other system i work with at university is:

Asus Maximus Formula III RoG mobo 1366

Asus GTX570 OC factory

i7 960 3.2 stock

4GB ddr 3 corsairs

corsair 720tx

it cant be the system, i recently updated my drivers to nvidia 280. something lol its the most recent one though, and my temps are fine, gfx is 50C then 48 then 57 then 50 and so on never higher. and core temp gives me early mid 40s and late 30s C. any fixes you guys came up with? its funny as this has never happened with my uni system.

Have you updated all your drivers. Does it happen with any other game? Check to see if their a bios update that fixes WSOD.

thanks Basil, will give that fix a try, and will see the BIOS but for the gfx i got it up to date.

ok new update,

that fix Basil didnt help much, i sometimes get the WSOD within ten minutes of starting the game, and sometimes i would be able to play a few rounds before the crash again.

EDIT UPDATE: Checked BIOS and its the latest version, up to date. also found a torrent http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/5423...ite_Screen_Fix

So the game just turns white, but you can shoot and hear things fine? If you CONTROL + ALT + DELETE, do you see the Windows screens? Or Alt Tab and get to your desktop, or does it stay white?

cont alt del and the screen remains white, it takes me to desktop but it is as if its BFBC2 windowed mode alt tab doesn't work for some reason. Anyways i have done a great deal of searching in the EA forums and found many to be blaming it on their integrated sound cards namely realtek, i haven't disabled mines yet, as i have just done a windows update and it updated the framework so i will be testing the game tomorrow, if the problem however persists i will move along to disabling the sound card and using a headset whilst in game and see if it is definitely the sound card causing this.

For now its take out food and PS3 media server for some awesome everybody loves raymond or a movie, eagle101..out.



EDIT UPDATE: just an update, i noticed that when i alt tab from the main menu it takes me to desktop but with battlefield open in a sot of windowed mode, and windows 7 display goes into basic instead of aero.

Ok all i can say up until now is that sometimes i manage to get a few rounds then WSOD, sometimes it happens immediately. There are numerous fixes around the net but i simply cant be arsed, i will try the disable audio fix tomorrow if that don't work i will just keep playing the way i do at least i get a few battles that will hold me until BF3 lmfao :P

ok, disabled audio, now i got black flicker, then widescreen now disabled audio deleted drivers and will have windows update pick up a driver for my sound maybe i can get the win7 one. will test this all out after that i am giving up.

You also seem to have constant PC issues. Your stuff junk or what?

lol stuff junk no :P i didnt give up easy crunch man i have been at it for the past week, BC2 runs beautifully on my other setup i have been playing now on my current comp i get WSODs but i just end the process and restart the game, i am too lazy to look for a fix, been all over the web i just want to enjoy whats left of my summer before i head off my my masters this September.

okay i am NOT giving up! i am still looking for fixes! :P i really need to play BC2, after playing black ops on my pc all this time i am missing the big maps, battles, and team work

have you alreeady tried to run in compatibility mode? like try windows xp, then try the others

Nop i havent, but i have been playing more than a few rounds now successfully, i tried two fixes i found on the EA forums today, one fix i tried was the scan now option when you open the command prompt, then one guy suggested leaving the MSAA option in settings on 4X i.e. the default i believe, mines was set to 1X as i dislike AA but i set it to 4X and voila no crashes since, i will play a little longer and check but for now i gotta end it as its Ramadan and i am breaking my fast in an hour or so. will try the game later and for longer then will report back, thanks for commenting Jimykx and everyone else :)

I found a thread in the ea forum where one was able to reinstall bc2 and fix it. Another reinstalled windows and fixed it that way. They all agreed it was a bc2 problem and not hardware related.

yeah i have read of such fixes, tried the BC2 reinstall did not work, it seems that the 4X setting of the AA fixed it, i played yesterday without any probs for over an hour, i never surpassed an hour without WSOD will play again today. Thanks Crunch, if God forbid it happens again i will try the OS reinstall fix thanks again for that.
