Re: What I think Battlefield 3 Will Be Like

I'm going to sell my laptop to speed up earning enough for BF3. Well, it's to play a myriad of games, not just BF. With my little job I should be able to get enough for an epic PC in about 4 weeks plus selling my laptop.

Hu no, I know some hardcore BF1942 fans (who were already complaining with BF2) and some of them aren't going to buy it. Rambo (on TGN) is nothing compared to certain persons . Some just found their thing in Armed Assault or Project Reality, they were searching a game with big map and combined arms more than the classes based teamplay or the arcadish gameplay. Must be rare though.

The dribbling and speculations is made by dice,by keeping secrets and they know it.

I think they like to stir the community up :s

do any other famous games change so much ?no! grand turismo is still grand turismo,GTA is still GTA ect.ect. But the lines between console BC and PC BF are now that blured we dont know what frankenstien we will get.I learned that lesson when we got a console game in BC2, they even gave us 3 PC sized maps after because the flames were getting to hot.

They know what they are doing and its not about the loyalty of fans ,its about the money$$$

Those going "OMG i love dice" have never played 1942 or know whats good for them lol

I believe people dont complain enough and the result is we get some unfinished, bugged out mini game.To them why even bother making a full game as they know kids will buy a piece of dog poop if its marketed/hyped right.

Every ten years every company needs a good boycott to put them back in their place lol, no im not suggesting that with bf3 but should it of happened with BC2?or should have PC based fans realized they were second best and it was not the BF they have come to expect. If PC boycotted BC2 we would be in a much better place i think.

I see alot of complaining, and was apart of boycotts in BF2 for how they treated mods, said I was never gonna buy another dice game, etc etc

I'm older now, in the military, and dont have time for that pety shit....its just a video game lol. Why stress over it?

Not to mention that not a single boycott has ever worked. I think Valve did something a while back, but that just made great publicity for them to make more $$$$

A company stirring up marketing for monetary gain??? Thats MADNESS!!

Re: What I think Battlefield 3 Will Be Like

                    Untrue, Rambo.

True fans are not those who cling to the past and are afraid of changes.

True fans are critical of the material they are fans of, but know that when it is no longer attractive it's time to move on. They will send feedback but not ultimatums, they will survey changes and analize gameplay and make an informed decision.

What you are thinking of are fanboys; those who claim they are the only true fans and everybody else is wrong. The kind of guys who cry nerf at everything, that only focus on the negative.

Undersdtand this: videogames, like most things, are products, not services. BF3 is a product, Blog is a service. The ideal is to have a prodyct that satisfies your needs with a service that compliments it.

For a BF game, the product is: a map that can be accessed by up to 64 people at the same time, with 3D assets and a 1st person shooter gameplay mechanics, the actual assets and mechanics can and will change to fit the goal of the developer; DICE in this case. The actual service is the ability to make those 64 people play over the internet, the service is the server browser.

When you go and actually look back on the previousp roducts, you can see a steady progression and evolution in the product. At the core, BF is about having 64 people duking it out. Not "tactics" or "epicness". Those are a byproduct of the utilization of assets available in the product.
DICE doesn't have an "epic" programmer or an "epic" team.

I find your comment rather offensive to a DICE fan like me; beause one of the reasons I like them is their ability to stick to their core design and choices in mechanics and the refinement the product has suffered over ten years.
BF is one of the very few IPs that have constantly moving forward, dropping some features and including some others regardless of what the "fans" think.

I like DICE's commitment to make good PRODUCTS. Not to please fans. Pleasing fans is a btproduct of making GOOD products.

Measuring the quality of the experience is subjective; but measuring the quality of the product itself is objective: DICE has improved programmingin a variety of ways over the years.
Yet, they are still a small studio compared to the true development giants. They until BC2 had never had a multimillion dollar budget to develop a game. BF2 was a runway success and their true mainstream appeal game. Remember it sold 2 million copies in 2005 way before Xbox live was a thing, way bvefore CoD was a thing.

But you'd have to be deluded to think that was the very best they had to offer. The other reason I like DICE is they refuse to be trapped in their old design choices. You say: they don't care about their fans. I say: they care about improving their product, and being trapped developing old products only leads to stagnation.

So are you suggesting we shoul stop buying product to teach them a "lesson"? What lesson? that they should not try to improve and instead pull an iD or an IW and stagnate the gameplay and design only giving us prettier graphics?

You put Gran Turismo as an example. One of the longest running, with more changes between each iteration franchises in the genre. Granted, GT2 was just GT1 with four times the cars, btu similar gameplay because they were limited by the tech. GT3 changed everything about the handling and the way you advanced through the game, GT4 again refined it; but GT5 again changed a lot of stuff around.

Did you really play GTA 1 and 2? GT3 is what introduced GTA as the masses know it; it resembles the originals in nothing except you can steal cars at will and some basic gameplay mechanics like the stars that indicate how wanted you are by the police.
And then thegameplay has barely improved from there, with barely any improvement in the code either. It runs crappy on consoles and it runs crappier on PC cos it's always a direct port; and you criticize DICE?

Seriously? For reals? Name me ONE console port that runs and looks better on PC than on console. There is one: Bad Company 2. All of the others, DMC3 and 4, GTA, SFIV, etc. those are direct ports. (ok we can make an exception for Arkham Asylum since it supports physix but the textures don't improve a lot on PC)

And of course it's about the money! IDCE is a company not a public service, they need to sell to make money, to sell more they have to appeal to a wider demographic. If you can't see the limited appeal the now TEN YEARS OLD gameplay has to the public at large then you are a fanboy who just refuses change for the sake of keeping things the same.

I like how everybody thinks companies develop things as they go, on a whim. I bet they have had a basic layout of the main features since forever and they're just "leaking" things slowly to keep us hyped.

Who would have known DICE is good at business?!

While i can agree with your points on many levels, there you just said it yourself.Evolution is good but any entity, be it a game or business know that loyalty is where its at.
Get your customer and keep him close and happy, In retail sales 2/3 of customers are repeat customers.
I agree lets move forward, but you cant move foreward without knowing the past and you certainly cant be pig headed against your fans. How far would a rock star get if they started being ignorant?or Target if they started making there previous customer unhappy and feel isolated.

I can see your points though mate and you do make good ones, please see mine:)

Last time I checked it didn't. Especially since MW2 doesn't have dedicated servers, and neither will MW3.

And I really don't see why DICE are being pig-headed. They let the public into the alpha! That is the opposite of pig-headed in my opinion. They show that they actually care about our feedback, which is why they let people in and then got them to take a survey and post in the forums. Now they are going over what everyone wrote in the forums and they have already said they are considering many changed (specifically 3D spotting). They implemented many things that they had taken out because the community wanted them (see: jets, 64 players, larger maps). They are also giving us an open beta. How exactly are they upsetting all of their repeat customers with their "pig-headed attitude"?

Sure I'll agree that overall, EA's and DICE's disregard to the community (for lack of a better phrase) has increased, but that is to be expected when you become a massive company with a huge following. You need to be very responsive to community to start, or otherwise your games won't ever gain popularity. Once established, they have more freedom to do what they think is best and not listen to the community. The same is true with Activision and Infinity Ward.

It's not happening to gaming overall though. There are plenty of developers who listen to their community. Tripwire and Mojang are two great examples. But they are smaller companies who depend greatly on the community, because otherwise they would fail. But as they grow, they move away from that. If you've been following Minecraft from the beginning, you will have noticed that Notch is started to implement features that he wants that may be unpopular with the community. The community base is already there and they won't be going anywhere for some time. IW could disregard everything everyone wants (MW2) and still get massive sales.
