random FPS drops making game unplayable

Hey guys I have an issue. For whatever reason when I am playing BF2 for a long period of time, as I play longer, the FPS drops more and more. I normally start out at 60-80 and before you know it Im down to 12 or less. I just reinstalled battlefield 2. I am using the steam version.

    Specs-
    Win7 64bit
    5Gig ram
    2.5ghz dual core processor
    Nvidia 8800GTX

I had the same problem and never found a solution to it. Eventually I just booted my old vista partition with BF2 on it anytime I wanted to play BF2. The only thing i could figure was that it might of been some type of memory leak or dx9 problem.

specs were: win7 HP x64 (legal retail), q6600, 4gb mushkin, raptorX hdd, bfg 8800gtx-oc2, nvidia 191.07 x64 driver.
I monitored max temps in bf2: cpu: 45c, gpu 65c.

    I had tried:

    all compatibility modes.
    different video drivers, including betas.
    changing affinity to one core.
    closing all non-essential programs.
    disabling aero.
    disabling antivirus.
    bf2 alt-tab fix.
    changing pagefile size.
    full manual uninstall and reinstall.
    re-installing PB & services.
tried different settings in nvidia control panel.
    disabling physx.
    changing pb_sleep and security.
